dated a girl once that i consider a bit of a unique case.

she liked gaming, she actually enjoyed halo (wow), and she always asked to play, but...
she kinda sucked. she stayed in that whole 'i only use once control stick to move' phase, even after an hour or two of playing the game. the worst thing was, i felt bad telling her that she wasnt any good, even after all her practice...

it was disheartening, to say the least.

OP- MARRY HER!!!
I've never had a girlfriend, but when I do, if she tells me that it's either gaming or her, it's likely I won't pick her!

my wife doesnt really games, aside few casual games, on the wii or on her PC, but she will not play a first person shooter with me for exemple. She does like to watch me game. But usually i try to game when we are not togheter. She goes to sleep fairly early, and i goes to sleep rather late, so i use that time to play games.

Yeah my ex-girlfriend didn't like me gaming too much and kept hiding all the controllers to my consoles so that we could be together without the consoles on...that did get annoying.

I say that people should work it out, most people game to relax and I personally would think it pretty damned awesome if my girlfriend grabbed a controller and at least attempted to join in

it would be awesome to have a gaming girlfriend ... just aslong as she isn't better than me =)
LOL!
That's quite an issue!
Not every guy can accept the fact that a girl might kick his ass in his favourite games :p

My ex-girlfriend's mom and sister both played WoW when I was dating her. They got me to start playing it and once I started to play a lot my girlfriend didn't like it. I tried to get her to play with me a few times. She even enjoyed it when she did. But all-in-all it was one of the reasons we broke up. I still talk to her though and the weirdest part is that her next two boyfriends also played a ton of games.

Hmm well ive never dated a gamer girl, so ive made it a point never to sit around playing games while they were at my house. Im usually out n about with them. I can understand the "cutting into our time" mentality. God knows if i went over to her house and she spent it starring in the mirror the whole time id be bothered.
This. Just like if you went to your girlfriend's house and she spent the whole time brushing her hair in the mirror, it would be irritating. So if you girlfriend comes over and she's not into games, pay attention to her--don't stare at a screen.

I've never had this problem, though, because I've been with guys who were gamers and I like games too.

There is always a sad bit of desperation in threads like this :( it makes me feel bad.
Can you blame us?

To the answer to the thread, no sir, I have not had the opportune moment to meet anyone of the fairer sex as of yet.

I'm not sure how this will change anything, aside from my slightly less self-confidence.

Ah yes, the never ending quest to find someone with the same interests (im gaming or anime) as me. Sadly I have yet to have a girlfriend, although I'm almost 19 already, so I don't have really experience on this matter. Though I would imagine my gaming habits would be difficult to understand by many girls I know. Not that I really know girls. It sertainly doesn't help that I'm, a bit stereotypically, not a very social person among other things. You won't see me drinking in a bar in the evenings.

I really envy you people as you can talk about your (ex)girlfriends so casually...damn, now I depressed myself.

Well, she can't really complain.

She gets to lug me around to help carry her shopping as she shops with her "girlfriends".

Therefore, I get to have a couple of nights to myself, with my true love: the Xbox.

My boyfriend loves his games, and I love to watch him play them! I dunno why, it's just exciting I guess and fun to help each other out ('UP THERE! Enemy shooting at you!') Kinda thing. Well, theres that and I usually panic when a hell of a lot of enemies run at me or pop out, it's nice to see someone who can remain calm and collected in SUCH A SCARY SITUATION!, then kick all their asses without being hurt too badly :p

I can understand if some guys play games ALL the time (aka, literally not spending any time with their girlfriend), but I think that girlfriends should just try and sit with their guys and have fun trying to help them out :) You never know, it can be pretty fun!

My ex and I sat and played Crazy Taxi for hours on end, and she would sit watching me play other games, or if she was bored of watching, she'd amuse herself in one way or another.

Then I went gay, and now I have both a loving partner and a halfway decent challenge when I play games. As a matter of fact, he utterly destroys me when it comes to racing games.
