Hello Escapist.

I was just about to finish a post about betrayal (and who in your family you would least suspect) when I lost interest and stopped. Have you aborted threads like this?

Do you do it often? Why do you usually abandon an idea?

[sub]I generally just get bored with the topic and I figure that if me, the OP is bored, the community will also be bored.[/sub]

Your turn.

I do it a lot.

I'll get like halfway through typing up a thread or sometimes completely done and think, "meh, I really don't care" or, "This topic is dumb..." so then I move on.

Most of the time now, actually. Meh.

I was about to do it here too.

I give up while I'm still thinking of it.
It occurs to me that I'm not eloquent enough to do it properly and I'm not interested in making a thread without substance. Plus, it'd likely be a reiteration of something I missed. There just isn't any point.

I like how you lost interest in a thread you were making only make a thread about how you lost interest in the thread you were making.

Sometimes I have a cool idea for a thread, then reread what I've written and see that it makes me come off as an asshole, or might be kinda stupid.

i must wonder how many times this thread was a victim of its own subject matter....

OT: not sure I've ever really done that. but then I'm not much of a thread starter, and more a thread finisher.

I do it more often than not when making posts. It's why I never start threads.

Sometimes, but it's often like "Yeah, I'll make a thread now" then just changing my mind. If I have something I find quite interesting then this won't happen.

I've never actually created a thread, but many times I'll have a post half done, then just leave the thread, as I'm bored with writing it.

Not for threads, I do abandon a post when I realize that I'm basically just rehashing an opinion that's been said a hundred times already.

Either that, or I realize I might be too offensive. This site's really uptight about flaming.

I did start writing one once, and midway through I relized I don't give a crap about it and turned my computer off.

I've abandoned more posts than threads. I've been here long enough so that one would think I'd have tried making more threads but no. Generally I'll abandon a thread when I don't think it'll be a long-lived thread. I'll abandon a post if I think it'll get me into trouble with a mod or, if the post is lacking in relevance. Also, to a somewhat lesser degree, I am a bit worried every time I get quoted. 'What did I say now' is the first thing I think when I see that I've been quoted.

I abandon lots of threads and posts. They get shoved away in the group of tabs to the left of my screen until I stop caring.

I should stop abandoning debates. I get overwhelmed by obligations easily, even if I can think of things to reply with. Honestly, it isn't just me being proven wrong, getting upset, and being in denial. Some years ago I tried to challenge that white supremacist cesspool of ignorance known as Stormfront in a debate. I created a thread and got lots of replies, but their numbers, their arrogant stupidity, and the fact that my posts had to be approved by a mod... It just felt overwhelming and saddening. I put off replying and I never did.

Sometimes. Occasionally I'll abandon it mid-post because I feel like all I would say has been said. Other times I'll get tired of an argument I'm having with another poster and just abandon it.

I don't really make threads, cuz i don't really think of any specific topics and there will be about 5 different people being uncreative (like me) making threads saying "so *insert video game here* sucked/was awesome" so i'd just be adding to the pile if i whent down the uncreative route.

Threads... Posts... Really, though, not posting can actually be a mature reaction to what's going on. That's the problem with the internet; you can't see maturity on the internet, because the most mature response to something on the internet is usually to not post at all.

Quite often. More so with posts than threads. I often will start typing a long response, then not post it. I usually dont if I either am unsure of what Im talking about, dont think people will understand, or just dont want to start/continue something thats just annoying me.

for every post i actually post, there's 9 that i've started typing, or even finished, and then i'll delete it and not post it, same with threads although it happens less often

Every time I want to make a thread I think to myself "Is this really something useful to discuss and thus worthy of being a thread?"
Ever since I starting asking myself this the answer has been "no" every time. I haven't created a thread in years because of it. Yet I still see the same damn zombie thread on a regular basis. Makes you think.
