While it is extremely likely that Sean Smith might have been CIA, his stated role is after all not an unusual position for "wink wink nudge nudge" CIA officers. It is widely understood that part of any embassy's function is that of gathering information on its hosting nation for the home nation. There is nothing particularly strange about this. Every embassy in the world does it. It is a well understood element of diplomacy. No particular conspiracy there.

But the mysterious cry for help via Eve online? Please! Even if he was CIA, that doesn't mean that he didn't have an actual life outside his job and enjoy an online game. Once again no reasonable conclusion for any sort of conspiracy.
