Gmod help (ongoing)

Hi guys, I finally have Gmod.

I have tried it out, and I think it will be a long and wonderful relationship.

But! I have managed to add the wiremod, but want some maps.

I have downloaded some, but Do not know where to put them. I was told to put wiremod in the garry's mod/addons folder, but maps???

Please help

(by the way. The map i have downloaded is a .bsp file. Is that right?)

gmod cannot run on my computor. no really. ime that bad.

you need actual games on steam. like you need tf2 to use 2fort.

There should be a 'maps' folder in your garry's mod folder. Find it, and put the file in there. Then start up the game, and it should appear.

Theres a folder within the gmod folder called "Maps" put the .bsp file in there.
Edit:
Find you steam folder.
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMUSERNAME\garrysmod\garrysmod
within there is a Maps folder.

OT: You put them in the map's folder, and extract them there. If you get another folder within your maps folder with the name of the map, go in that folder, and find a file that is just the name of the map. I don't know what kind of file it should be. It usually has a white page next to the name, if that helps

You really are obsessed with Gmod huh?

Go to garrysmod.org to download new maps, then place them under:
program files>Steam>SteamID>GarrysMod>gmod>maps

I believe thats it anyways.
I used to make custom Gmod maps, its been awhile though. Look for a map called "gm_rofltown"

Hhmmm....My wiremod didn't work. I loaded up-the portal gun i installed worked, the pheonix storms 2 worked, the maps worked, but wiremod didn't.

Ok, I have currently downloaded 2 portal gun mods. One didn't even appear in-game, one was available, but couldn't register any textures so that no portals appeared.

Does anyone have a link to a working portal gun?

Ok. One last thing.

WHen you join a multiplayer game that you need to download parts for...do those parts stay permanently on your com? or are they just temporary files?

I am hesitant to join an online game at the moment because of hard drive space.

Most of them are lua files they won't do much to your space I believe and they aren't permanent If I am correct you can also make the game not download anything.
I hope I'm right.
