Go back in time and save music.

Right, so if you had the chance to go back in time, how would you save music?

I decided to keep the subject narrow because I think it would lead to a large amount of interesting responses.

As for me, I'd keep Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain dead because they died at their prime, and I'd most likely save Cliff... maybe have Lars under the bus but I don't think so.

I'd go back and destroy auto tune. Oh, and y'know those Jedward people? I'd make one of them blind and the other deaf, just for lulz... and I'd make it so that Tupac didn't die, just so people can shut the fuck up about it.

If I truly had the power to, I'd make sure that pop-rap never existed (fortunately that wouldn't be going too far back; around the time Lil' Jon got big should be sufficient). Good, wholesome, rapping-for-the-sake-of-rapping-and-not-for-money-and-popularity for everyone.

You've covered Hendrix and Cobain which also were my choices. Morrison had to be stopped from dying too and I would try to assassinate the one who came up with house music. For some strange reason it makes me agitated to listen to. For me, it really is as empty as music can be.

One man, sent back In time, to stop Mark David Chapman from completing his mission, killing John Lennon, and subsequently killing music, with nothing but a steely resolve, rugged good looks, and a handgun. I am the Wallrus, coo coo caKILL.

The destruction of autotune and promotion of Iced Earth and Blind Guardian at an earlier era, hopefully eclipsing gangster rap with the pure awesome.

Does music need saving?

Maybe identify the first gangsta rapper (failing that I'll find the first rapper to say '******' in an unironic manner) and pay them not to.

Oh, no actually! I'd go back in time to the the first rock/metal bands and ensure they behave like actual professionals rather than vomit-caked dysfunctional babymen.

Seriously, metal needs more people like Rammstein. They play a set sober, bow and leave.
Yes, with simulated sodomy and a shit load of fire. Seriously though, agree that they need to start acting like they have some damn sense.

Hmm there are a few.
Jimi, Kurt, Cliff, Randy Rhodes, John Bonham.
Also, Bon Scott, but then Brain Johnson wouldn't be there. I'd keep Bon Scott alive and tell them of Brian Johnson's musical ability.

I'd keep Cobain alive, if only so he could really start to write shitty music and everyone would stop sucking his corpse's dick.

Also, I'd try to keep George Harrison alive. Lennon became a legend in death, but Harrison's never gotten the posthumous respect he deserves.

I'd rather not. Extreme metal is stronger than ever and most acts today completely outclass the bands who started the genres.

Yeah, I went there.

Uh, seriously? There's heaps of metal acts that act properly live. Heaps upon heaps upon heaps.

I'd kill Ozzy, and let the snowball roll. No Ozzy, no metal, indie reigns supreme.
Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest say hi. Also, Sabbath would've just started out with Dio instead.

Wouldn't change a thing. Maybe the current music scene isn't the best but it could be worse. It always has to be bad before it can get better. Plus who knows what would happen if you changed something. It could cause things to be even worse when you come back.

You know the butterfly effect and all.

Oh yeah? Well, let's go back in time and see who wins huh, pretty boy? -Oh wait, there's no time travel, cause there's no shocking time machines, because all of this is hypothetical and no one will time travel, and I'm not cold-blooded enough to take a man's life.
