I thought it would be better to use an old SOPA thread rather than make a new one.
Here are all the companies supporting SOPA

You know what my favorite part about this story is?

Go Daddy didn't pay enough attention to notice that the boycott was supposed to happen on the Twenty-ninth, so they reported that it was a flop, thus provoking the internet into acting immediately.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is why you research before you run your mouth.

Well, if only the movie and music industry figures out that their drop in sales over the past few years is FUCKING CAUSED BY THEIR RETARDED BUSINESS PRACTICES AND NOT INTERNET PIRACY, then we might get somewhere.

This godaddy thing is small fish.
I mean, obviously it's somewhat a big deal to them, but it doesn't really mean much for the bottom line: lobbyists with the ear of stone-aged american politicians.

(on a serious note, even though I'm from the UK I'm glad, if this gets passed in the US how long before the UK goverment think it's agood idea!?!)
Problem for other countries is, sites like The Escapist can be shut down immediately for simply showing trailers, so us Brits would lose out as much as Merica would.

Well done people, well done! My boss uses Go Daddy, I'm going to be talking to her about switching that out here soon. If it happens I will definitely be sending Go Douchey a nice letter about how idiotic and self-injuring they are with their support of SOPA.

A Law so vaguely worded like this can be (mis)used in a Multitude of Ways. If Laws like this are seriously considered, then why not have more Laws that are worded to be as nebulous as possible. America could cut down on Costs for the judicial System; just flip a Coin.

The SOPA is so vague, you can twist it in any Way you desire and if it comes to pass, People will do just that. The SOPA shouldn't even have come this far in my Opinion; not because i disagree with some Points that are actual Points rather then roundabout BS.
It shouldn't have come this far because anything so open to misuse should never come to pass in any System of Law that can call itself that.

I'm glad to hear this. GoDaddy is forever vilified in my own mind, however.
I'm not convinced. Maybe if they out and out said it was a bad idea then yes, but that sentence about "crafting revisions" and "fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance" still tell me that they are supporting it under the table.

Which is how most of businesses work. Ba-dum-tish!

Still, if the mere threat of a boycott and Ashton Kutcher were enough to get one company to back down, maybe a higher-on-the-food-chain celeb and a well publicized boycott of the founding companies were to gain even the most tenuous of footholds, hopefully overcome the initial inertia, then maybe this thing will truly die the death it deserves.

It's impossible to believe there is any sincerity in this change of mind.

The boycott should go ahead regardless.
This.

Something else needs to be done. Like a ban on censorship.

I'm with TIG, my company is with Dynamic Network Services. Wouldn't poke GD with a thousand foot lance.

One of the things I keep thinking of is the level of misuse (above what the obvious is) that the companies will be able employ.

Say for example The Escapist's own Yahtzee gives a particularly scathing review of Modern Warfare or another generic "brown" shooter. The developer watches it and says "That was a harsh review. Oh, it seems they didn't get proper permission to use the images of the box art, better get the lawyers to shut the website down."

All the game review websites are going to have to get out their Perfect 10 rubber stamps if they want to stay in business.

As I re-read the article, one line from the GoDaddy CEO angered me greatly.

Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance.
SHUT. THE. F*CK. UP.

Stopping child abuse is of the utmost importance. World hunger is of the utmost importance. Online piracy is the ultimate first world problem.
