I use a Razer Imperator. It's very comfortable, and looks sexy. The two buttons on top controlling dpi are surprisingly useful.

Anything by Logitech is generally a good bet. I got fed up of the trackpad on my laptop as well and bought a cheap USB optical mouse, a Logitech M100, for around £5. It may not have the fancy extra buttons my desktop mouse (also a Logitech, though the model escapes me at the moment) has, but I have no complaints and for a mere fiver it was well worth it.

Alright, not gonna lie, I thought you were talking about this kind of Mouse, not a computer mouse at first.

However, check Amazon. They have a decent computer mouse selection. This is the one I use [http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-HKA-00001-SideWinder-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B000TTQFIS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303655867&sr=8-1].
Hot Damn!
To the computer mouse as well. x3

If you're not using it for gaming, any wired optical mouse will do you - you can get a decent one for dirt cheap.

Well, my mouse just stopped working a couple minutes ago. I've only just managed to stop miming over the mousepad...
I'm typing this on my laptop, and the touchpad thingy is a huge pain in the arse to use. So:

What the hell kind of mouse should I get? Considering I know fuck-all about these things, I thought I'd ask you guys.

And for discussion: What accessories could you live without, but would really hate to lose? Not limited to computer accesories.

[sub]Turns out I haven't got over the miming. Grrr...[/sub]
I use this one

Best damn mouse i have ever had.

I second that. While I don't have as much use for the extra buttons anymore, it's a brilliant mouse, and the fact that you can choose if you want to go wired or wireless makes it so much better IMO.

I find it very funny that the guy with the cat avatar is complaining about a dead mouse. Just because dang, man, I love coincidences.

But on-topic, I've been using a generic, $20-$30 dollar Logitec optical mouse for a few years now and it hasn't screwed me up. A few times (like once a month or something) the camera will jiggle or the signal gets blipped or something and for half a second the mouse just spazzes the hell out on screen. But that's a figment of this being a somewhat older mouse that's seen a lot of use.

Unless you're a hardcore gamer who needs all the big peripherals, just a $20 or $30 optical mouse is perfect for most uses. If you want you can shell out another $20 or so for a wireless battery charged mouse and get rid of an extra cord, since being a laptop you'd probably have to end up winding the cord up to keep it manageable.

Think I'm using a Logitech £6.99 one, hasn't gone wrong so far. I could get one of those interesting looking gaming ones but I wouldn't know what to do with all the extra buttons.

That's why we keep a few spares. Although the current one in use (at the computer I'm on right now):

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Laser-Mouse-Blue-Black/dp/B000ODN7VM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1303657851&sr=8-3

Is superb. I don't expect this to die out anytime soon.

Go for something fairly cheap, but effective and nice to use.
Currently using:

Logitech m500 (seems to be more expensive than when I got mine...)

Has a rather nice feature where you can switch the roller from click-click-click mode to smooth mode. Something that never gets old for me.

I'd also recommend

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 4.0, which continues the tradition of down-to-earth mice and keyboards being the ONLY thing Microsoft are good at. Assuming you can find one. It might have been discontinued.

They're a little more expensive than baseline mice, but you will notice the difference, and they'll last a lot longer.

I remember once, mid way through Lich King heroic 10man, My mouse battery ran out, with my camera facing upwards for some reason. Had to do the rest of the fight judging where I was from my minimap!

I'd just go for a default microsoft one, they're cheap and tend to work.
Bloody hell, how on earth did you manage that? Or did you not manage at all and die?

I think I'll get the one with lights on...

When my last mouse died, or more accurately when the batteries and/or receiver died and I became sick of wireless mice, I bought a Logitech LS1 Laser Mouse.

It's cheap and cheerful, but it's really precise and is one of the best mice I've ever used. It may only have 2 buttons and a tilt wheel, but it's easy to grip, comfortable to use, works on most surfaces without a mat and seems to excel at anything I use it for (including games).

As a quick replacement mouse for a tenner, you can't really go wrong with it and it would serve you well until you decided to buy a more expensive mouse with lots of buttons and flashing lights, if you ever decide you want one of those.

Seriously. It's got Teflon feet and 3500DPI!
It's soooo comfortable to use, fits perfectly in my hand, the buttons have that special *clicky clicky* that quality mice tend to have!

Ohh, and the mousewheel and Razer logo glows BLUE!. The logo pulses every 6 seconds. Really neat :D

The driver software also allows you to sotumize the mouse the way you want. You can shift between 5 fully costumizeable profiles that you can costumize the way you want to!

The Roccat Kone seems to be at a reasonable price, has all the needed features for gaming, looks great and it has lights that can be changed to a custom color.
Also that... pretty neat.
