Hearing what critics and movie-goers say about it, I got the same feeling. Probably he expected it to be a blockbuster instead.
Then the joke's on him, because there's no way this was going to make it big. Unfortunately for the director, the Star Wars prequels have completely robbed the movie-going public of wanting to see movies that are (at least) 75% computer generated.
...the exception, of course, being actual animated films.
