Godzilla Full Trailer Is Finally Revealed

The full-on Godzilla trailer teases a dark twist on the most famous monster to stomp out of the sea.

I can't say I was too impressed with the initial Godzilla teaser [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/130405-Godzilla-Trailer-Stomps-the-Tubes], although it did afford me the opportunity to make a Godzookie joke, which is always appreciated. But now the full trailer is here, and my mind is changed. Dramatically changed.

I'm no fan of generic disaster flicks, but there's something about this that looks different. Sure, there are plenty of special effects and things blowing up, trashed cityscapes and all the rest, but the "humanity will triumph" theme so prevalent in these things just isn't there. Maybe it's Bryan Cranston bringing some added gravitas to the table; whatever the reason, it's a lot less "we shall overcome" and a lot more "God help us, because we are SO screwed."

A good trailer does not a good movie make (I was very impressed with the first John Carter teaser [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111669-John-Carters-Mars-Isnt-As-Red-As-Youd-Expect] and we all know how that turned out) but this is a very promising development. Hope the big fella lives up to his billing.

Godzilla hits theaters on May 16.

Why the stupid Transformer/Reaper dubstep beats? WHY!? Are those supposed to be what Godzilla's farts sound like?!

They really are being careful with not giving us that big money shot of the 'zilla this time, aren't they?

Well, that's what I want to see, so I guess I'm still interested, for now at least.

The only word I have to sum this up is "meh". Just looks like another big, epic, brooding piece of shit. I'm not sure why but it totally reminds me of World War Z (and I wouldn't really call that a good thing).

Unpopular opinion: That movie is seriously underrated.

OT: So, it looks like it might actually be a true sequel to the original 1954 movie instead of a remake, that's good. And is seems like it will be more than a typical disaster porn movie. Color me hopeful.

Yup I am now looking forward to seeing this film! I loved the feeling/ tone of the trailer (so much fear). God I can only imagine hearing that roar in the cinema surround sound! I may go deaf!

I just got a whole lot of "Action movie paint by numbers" from that.

Blue/orange contrast shots, yelling vague dude yelling about doom, weird dramatic sound effects.

I SAY MEH AT YOU!

I just love how they try to show more like a natural disaster than just some giant monster. If they keep it up in movie I'm gonna be very happy.

Minus the stereotypical trailer with fade ins, out's and long WUUUUUUUUUUBS, I'm hoping this movie will finally do Godzilla justice.

...Only because I really want to see him go toe to toe with Guillermo Del Toro's Jagers. I CAN DREAM CAN I?!

Modern movie trailers 101: Include at least one BWAAAAAAAA.

I'm still on the fence about this one, I doubt I'll go see it in the cinema unless it gets some spectacular reviews but it still seems like a better offering than the previous Godzilla movie.

Discount Inception music to start off with and then a man claiming that someone is 'hiding something'. I really hope that this isn't another super stealthy Godzilla as the trailer seems to be implying. Also, I was half expecting Raptors to jump out at the soldiers at around the 55 second mark.

It looks like a lot of fun. And that's all I want my movies to be. I'm not too finicky about adaptations or remakes or any of that. If it's fun, all is good.

And this looks like plain and simple fun.

when i went to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaoug, they showed the first trailer at the theater if you saw the movie in IMAX, of which i did. afterwards my ears were bleeding, is that a good sign? by the way IMAX surround sound quality is MUCH better than your standard screening, btw PacRim was awesome because of it, every step of the Jeagers and the kaiju could be felt in my chest, and so did the roars.

I mean, it looks ok, and I will check it out, but a voice in my head keeps asking why they've made a full movie out of the first two minutes of Pacific Rim...
(I am actually quite familiar with the franchise and its history, but the industry changes.)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to think of Jurassic Park. "Clever Girl."

Looks great, but it's too early to tell, really.

Just hoping this won't suck as bad as Pacific Rim.

Very stoked for this movie! Been a long time fan of Godzilla and so far this is hitting all the right beats in my book. Going to be interesting to see how much of the movie history is brought into this film and how they decide to play that out. From the sounds of it Godzilla has been on Earth all along and then showed up one day leaving the military to try to handle him right off the heels of World War II. What I can see in the trailer is during 1954 the military failed to kill Godzilla (perhaps mistaking several monsters for Godzilla) instead only managing to drive him underground. Not sure whether they thought they killed him or what but he's back. Chances are some sort of test awoken him and his path of destruction is what is bringing the others out of hiding.

Speaking of others I think I've got confirmation that both Rodan and Gigan will be appearing in this film.

At 1:30 it looks like that is Rodan dive bombing from the sky and landing in the ocean.

At 2:05 a giant single hooked claw crashed into the ground which reminds me a lot of the claws Gigan has in place of arms, only this time they appear to be more like bone instead of the metallic look they originally had.

For those complaining about the lack of a money shot that is kind of the point of these trailers. It's to build your curiosity and make you want to see more (which it did for me). Instead of giving you the money shot with Godzilla in all his glory we instead get glimpses of how big he is (biggest Godzilla to date, at least three times the size of the original 50's appearance) by comparing his size to things we already have a good idea of how big they are. People, buildings, planes, ships, and more act as a measuring stick for the audience giving you that feeling that you can't ever see the whole creature without having to pan your eyes upwards or something like. To me having that idea of how big he is before actually seeing him will make it all the more impressive.

Can't wait to see this when it hits theaters. The focus seems to be in the right place with humanity just kind of along for the ride at this point unable to really do much of anything to Godzilla or the others.

That to me is by far the most interesting thing about this trailer, the presence of at least one monster that clearly isn't Godzilla, meaning a fully modern effected Kaiju throwdown will probably happen by the end of the film (since we got no clear shot of either it could be both or a single creature re-imagined with features from more than one).

I want to see it just for that, my inner ten year old demands it.

As a side note, Breaking Bad be damned, whenever I see Bryan Cranston my immediate urge is to scream HAAAAL at the monitor.
