And I thought the cynicism in the recent "2014 is the 2nd worst year for gaming" thread was bad.
Christ, this forum is
drowning in it now. For fucks sake...
Sigh, anyway. I'm looking forward to this film. While trailers are usually nothing to go by, the story elements and premise behind this one sound solid. I especially like the switch up of the cold-war nuke testing being an attempt to kill Godzilla instead of them being the thing that "created" him.
Even so, could turn out awful. We'll just have to wait to see. Here's hoping we get a genuinely good "giant monster" flick. They're few and far between nowadays.

Discount Inception music to start off
Do you mean this "discount Inception music"?
Or are we now conflating sound effects with music?
Apparently, some people still think being cynical makes them look "cool". Personally, I'd like to remind those people that we already have a cynic in the form of Ben "Yahtzee" Crowshaw on this site. We don't need copycats trying to steal his act. Best to leave that job to a professional.
Now that I have gotten that off my chest, I'd like to offer my two-cents on the new
Godzilla trailer.
So far, this one is showing much more promise. I have my concerns but its mostly coming from the 1998 abomination I had to endure when it hit theaters. This version seems to have a much more serious tone much like the original 1954 movie (whether you prefer the U.S. cut or the original Japanese version, that's up to you). However, Escapist's own movie critic, Bob "MovieBob" Chipman, has voiced his concerns in regards to the director, Gareth Edwards, who's last movie
Monsters did not win him over. I haven't seen that particular movie so I'm willing to give the director the benefit of the doubt. Plus there is speculation that Godzilla won't be the only kaiju in this film. So fingers crossed that this movie lives up to expectations. Especially since 2014 marks the 60th anniversary of cinema's "King of the Monsters".
Also, since Andy failed to mention any further details on this movie
AGAIN, I'd like to point out the major-league actors appearing in the 2014 adaptation. The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, who will also be working together in the upcoming
Avengers: Age of Ultron as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch respectively. There's also some award-winning actors in the film such as Ken Watanabe and Bryan Cranston. I must admit, Mr. Cranston has come a long way since voicing the occasional monster-of-the-week on
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and being a comedic father in
Malcolm in the Middle. You're doing good, Mr. White.
Finally, thanks for pointing out the music score in the trailer was from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Vigormortis. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one that picked up on that.
