[HEADING=3]There are people out there who want to pay for stuff - the last thing you should ever do is make not paying look more attractive than it already does.[/HEADING]
Way to summarize everything I feel about the subject. The worst case of piracy that I have seen would be underdeveloped countries selling copies en masse - if pirated versions of these weren't available, a lot of these people just simply wouldn't afford the games, and it has not made much difference. I also agree with GOG's policies, and am looking forward to the Witcher 2 more than any other sequel in the last 3 years. I have faith in the general public's awareness and willingness to give the game developers their dues!

I also endorse Steam's idea, but with internet connections, it's just a little overdone. Steam platform and the games updating every other day, it gets frustrating as hell sometimes when all you want to do is fire up the game for a few minutes before dinner. And playing games on LAN without an online connection is still a hassle. Yes, I know there are not that many places without reliable internet connections left in the world, but I happen to live in one ok? It takes about 10 minutes to buffer a 2 minute youtube video in my fucking house. And "offline mode" isn't all that reliable. Anyways, that's not to detract from the overall argument, but I prefer GOG's system. Does anyone know if L4D2 can be played LAN in Offline mode? This is a major buying point for me that I've held off for months..

Sorry, back OT:
I'm also not condoning piracy. If I disagree with a case of DRM that's going overboard, I don't pirate, I just don't buy or play the game. Which is a fucking shame, because Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 still happens to be my favorite shooter =( And anyone else taking over that franchise is a remote probability at the moment.

I am fully on board with the guy. I pre-ordered my Witcher 2 from GoG. First pre-order I've done since...maybe forever in my soon to be 29 year old life.
Hey! I'm 29 and this was my first pre-order as well. I got it on gog.com as well, as that seems to be the best way to go about it.

So CDP actually made me deviate from my harsh 'Never ever pre-order' stance. Quite a feat.
Turning 29 in December, and The Witcher 2 on GOG is also my first pre-ordering =P hahaha pattern emerging! And I used to laugh at people who pre-order!

I can say I have never pirated a thing, I wait ages to get games cheap off of Steam ect. haha point to note I am playing thru DA 1 now :p. But honestly I have to agree this whole DRM shizz is just shooting the industry in the foot. How does this reward your customers at all? Just adding fuel to the fire :(

It would indeed appear that treating your customers right makes a difference. Or at least it makes sure that the key demographic of late 20's old farts will suddenly pre-order a game for the first time ever. That's a valid result in my mind. :D

And another company seems to understand that DRM needs to be banned.

This still doesn't solve the problem of inflation. If fresh titles are going to continue being overpriced on Steam and in retail, that's still going to drive people to piracy, especially when the publishers refuse to supply adequate gameplay trailers or free demo versions (you know, like those discs that came with the PlayStation Magazines?).

DRM isn't necessarily the issue, since Steam is one big DRM. Outrageous game prices, bad ports, and bad support is what drives people to piracy. Who's going to pay for a buggy overpriced game with no support?
Unfortunately far too many people. Gamers need to control the impulse buying and wait to see if a game is worth it before these automatic pre-order sprees. I really don't agree with all the angles the game community has been taking. When the job is finished, and done right, THEN you get paid. Not before.
