So GoldenEye is finally being remade, on the Wii.

Personally, I think the trailer looks all kinds of epic (the music didn't hurt either :D).

It seems to retain all of the extras from the original, but it features a new HUD, a new character, and Daniel Craig as Bond.

So, Escapists, thoughts on this? Will it bring back all of those nostalgic moments? Will it ruin your childhood? Are you hyped up about it (cause I sure am!)

There have been two or three threads about this already, but I think it looks nice. Will it be as successful as its predecessor? Not sure, I won't find out considering I don't have a Wii.

I never saw them (I checked Newest Posts), so please forgive my ignorance.

It looks really good. But I am EXTREMELY hyped up, so I might be blind to it's possible failure (which I hope doesn't happen). Best way to find out is to play it. Which I intend to do.

As long as it's played with a GC controller I'll be happy. If they even consider putting motion controls in it I'll eat my Wii and be done with the whole damn company.

Hate to break it to you guys, but the Wii doesn't exactly have the best luck with FPS games. The Conduit? Call of Duty 3? Any of these ringing a bell? If you can play it with a GC or classic controller, it will be fine, but if you make it so you HAVE to use the terrible Wii controls, it will probably fail.

Great, my expectations of this game are now in the stratosphere thanks to this kickass trailer. Only disappointment can come now.

Agreed. GoldenEye was best suited in the over-the-top fun era of Brosnan, not the dark and gritty Craig era. But that shouldn't hamper the game too badly; Craig still makes for a decent Bond.

Craig is a good Bond, in my opinion. Nevertheless, agreed. I would have really preferred Brosnan as Bond. Not only is he my favorite Bond (tied with Connery), but I would almost complete the nostalgia.

World at War? Modern Warfare: Reflex? Quantum of Solace? Any of these ringing a bell?

Sorry if I come off as a jerk with the above statement, but the Wii can do good FPS controls.

13 years of innovation? Wouldn't know it by looking at the graphics.
Oh no

Bad graphics

This game must be the worst thing evar
Agreed. I am tired of hearing people complain about the graphics. My thoughts on graphics are: "If you know what it is, it's good enough".
I won't play a game where a rectangle the size of a computer is supposed to be a "tripwire", but if I know a grenade at my feet when I see it, the graphics are doing their job (and I'm fucked).

Considering that I didn't like the original GoldenEye to begin with, there're no childhood memories to be raped.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this one, though. It could be good, and it could be bad. Until I see more straight-up gameplay, I don't feel secure making a judgement call.

I kinda doubt it. The Wii has never struck me as an FPS console because of how inaccurate the controls are. And before you mention Wii Motion Plus, I would like to point out the big issue that if your Wiimote isn't pointed DIRECTLY at the sensor, your lose connection and your character freezes up while all enemies on the screen turn you into a bullet sandwich, and how the Wii Motion Plus doesn't fix that.

Really, the Wii wasn't built for games like that. It should just stick to Raving Rabbids, Wario Ware, and other games of the same sort.

I've got Perfect Dark on XBLA and while it reminds me of the good fun I had with that game when it was released, it also reminded me of how far games have come.

It'll probably be good, but not great.

Has everyone forgotten about the hundreds of bond games that followed goldeneye. They tried to incorporate the same formula as the first, but did so unsuccessfully. Remember nightfire? http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/jamesbond007nightfire/index.html?tag=result%3Bimg%3B1

What makes this one special? The gameplay looks archaic judging by the trailer.

I've been hoping for ages for this and initially I rejoiced at the news but sadly I was also holding my breath in the hopes that it might be a multiplatform remake(since Rare were the original developers) only to have them immediately dashed. That said since its a wiimake I don't have high hopes for it based on my experience's in the past playing wii FPS's at a friends seeing how only so much is possible graphic wise on the wii(and a remake of such a classic as Goldeneye should get the best graphical treatment which will not be possible on) and the controls aren't very responsive, which leads to constant death and frustration in single player and ruffled feathers and anger outbursts in splitscreen and online play.

To be honest, I was never going to mention the Wii Motion Plus, because I don't have it, and don't really care for it.

I do see your point though. Some people just can't play FPS' with the Wii controls (My brother and my cousin, who is used to MW2 on the PS3). I, personally, am really good with the controls, but I understand what you're saying.

Before anyone decides to quote us and start a flame war (which I'm not saying they will), how about we just agree to disagree (honorable way of saying "I disagree, but can't come up with counter-arguments on the spot, and have no desire to form an enemy". That's what it means to me, anyway.)

Metroid Prime Corruption. It sold me on the idea of an FPS on the Wii actually working, mainly because the developers put some time into it.

Also, I've never understood the argument that the Wii controls are finicky. I don't have a motion plus, and the motion sensing has never given me a problem. Oh well. I'm actually decently excited for this game, its the first title in a while I've cared about for the Wii. This is and Metroid: Other M. To be entirely honest the only reason I bought the Wii is so I could play the new Metroid's.

im not liking the new bond i think activision have ruiend it for me, why couldent they just port it. I also think that goldeneye would suit the 360 and ps3 better. This seems like a sequel to the original as they have updated the weapons, bond and co can now speak and it looks like they included new levels, but i am sorta excited about the multiplayer.

Noooooooooo. I think I want to cry. I have wanted this for so so so long. They finally do it... Annnnnnd it's on the Wii. You are Kidding right? RIGHT?! The fact I've yet to play a shooter on the Wii that I actually enjoyed using the motion control for is the first problem, but it says online multiplayer. Nobody can deny what the Wii passes for online multiplayer is a joke!

I am so afraid that the Wii will ruin this game, graphics for one, motion control 2 and lack of multiplayer support 3... Why, why OH WHY, is this not for 360 or PS3? It would work so much better... I'm scared!
