Sorry for the obvious pun, but I wanted to ask about this.

I listen to rock and metal, ranging from Beatles to Black Dahlia Murder, but due to a series of circumstances surrounding the volcano, I've been listening to Lady Gaga...

My parent is stuck in a different country, so I'm taken to school by my sister - who always listens to the radio in the car. Oh! And I can't get a bus because there aren't any buses around my area to take me...

This is the only Pop I actually like. Why? because she has a bloody personality! The songs are mental, but catchy and musically interesting.

Anyone else experienced this strange phenomena? (As in, do you like her music?).

...and yes I may get shunned for liking her music, I don't care. :)

EDIT: To explain more... I don't listen to it very often at all, just the occasional song. I just found it catchy and interesting compared to rest of the drivel that's out there in "pop".

Lady Gaga writes some solid songs. "Brown Eyes" is heartbreakingly gorgeous. Some stuff is a bit pap but when she nails it boy is it good. Not usually my thing either.

Yes, I like her music too...and I have no idea. Granted, my tastes are a little all over the place, but even still. I had no interest in her music but after being with my friends who had all "gone Gaga," I couldn't help it.

Bad Romance, Poker Face, Love Game, Starstruck, Eh Eh, Just Dance...yeah...

I think I like it because her sound is something different to me. It's something new, that I can't really compare another artist to.

You're exactly like my boyfriend.
He listens to all Blink, Green Day etc and absolutely loves Gaga. He changed his gamertag to Davey Gaga xD
I love her too, but I listen to absolutely everything, so it's not much of a shocker.

I also enjoy her music and its pretty much for the exact reasons you stated.

I can understand why people don't like her music, as all music isn't liked by everyone obviously, but I don't understand why people say she has no talent. Her songs are very cleverly written by her and the music is arranged incredibly well.

I can't see how her music shows you that she has a personality.

I for one hate her music. It's so annoying. All it is is her making strange noises (at the very least all songs I've heard from her).

She's a perfect symbol over today's pop music: As long as people find the background noise to be catchy, it doesn't matter what she sings about.

It would be kind of cool to think that she's simply an undercover agent bent on exposing the MTV generation.

I never got the fuss to be honest, she just seems like any other pop star but with ridiculous costumes.
I find pop music more about fashion and celebrity than actual music nowadays.

As long as I don't have to hear her I suppose.

I don't like her personality, so that affects my liking of her music. She justs seems like the type of person I wanted to punch at school. I can see why people find her catchy, and I'll admit, I have had Bad Romance's beat in my head once or twice.

but it soon goes because, well, it grates on me.

I'll give her props for coming out of completely NOWHERE and dominating the pop charts with halfway decent songs.

And her bizarre sense of style is hard to ague against. It's certainly unique...

I'm not a fan, but I don't feel any desire to punch her in the face like I do other pop singers...

My point is that you see Popstars dominating, and yes, she is a pop-star. But she doesn't have just catchy songs - and she isn't a pretty face.

She's BIZZARE. I like her music in the same way I like reading about murder mysteries... it's repulsive, but it's too freaking INTERESTING.

and don't worry. I have Rock playing 95% of the time...

Having listened to here album in one session, I can't help but feel that, musically, she's a bit of a one-trick pony. Definitely a singles artist.

There's nothing to be ashamed of dude! *hugs*
If it makes you feel any better I read an interview in which she said she wanted to be like a spiritual successor to Queen and The Beatles(or something like that). But her image manager said that a pop and excentric theme would gain more publicity.
+ The thing that makes me like(or at least give credit to) a certain musician is his/her voice. And don't think this is disputable, but Gaga has a good powerful voice(just take that and insert it in any type of music and it'll sound ok)

It's okay and I've listened to some of her music and enjoyed it but it's not really something I like listening to a lot. My tastes are a bit weird but her music doesn't appeal to me a great deal as I'm not a big fan of dance/pop music. I find a lot of her fans especially annoying as well so that's influenced me.

Man...one day you will learn that there's more to life than the beatles. Yes they are awesome, but open your mind to other artists and you'll be astounded by what you hear.

OT: Yeah....she's alright...

Actually, that's exactly the point.

She's a pop star and she knows it, so she is intentionally drilling the pop angle to a ludicrous extreme. Pop is shallow and vapid, and therein lies the challenge. Can you make art out of pop? How would you go about doing that? I'd say she's doing a pretty good job of it.

If we need to argue about whether or not it's even possible to create art from pop culture, I'd like to just make a quick reference to all arguments made over Roger Ebert saying that games cannot be art. From an Aristotelian and Platonic point of view, "Art is imitation" and her performance does exactly that with all the embedded reference and commentary. Classical perspective on the value of art is in it's ability to provide insight through imitation, typically insight on the human condition.

Pop culture is a picture of a particular slice of contemporary society, and it is from this material that Lady Gaga creates her work( http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1633938/20100315/lady_gaga.jhtml ) . Whether or not she does this effectively or not is in the eye of the beholder, a subjective opinion. However, what we should all be able to agree upon is that she has been extremely successful at generating interest in her work and making an impact on pop culture itself. Effectively, her work has become self-referential.

Musically? Again a subjective opinion. I'm not particularly fond of pop, but she's a talented singer with creative composition. Did you know that she's a classically trained singer? Accepted to Juliard, but declined in favor of NYU Tisch (a comparable, but less well-known performance arts school). This is more subtly integrated through her vocal techniques, but here's an example of her applying these classical techniques directly:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8rpi4_lady-gaga-poker-face-acoustic-live_music

Most pop artists just have a decent natural singing ability and good looks. Then their producers provide music, lyrics, studio effects, and heavy promotion to make them saleable. Lady Gaga, while being weird as hell, she's authentically talented. Did you know that crazy shit she wears isn't just fame-induced insanity? She was doing that /before/ she was famous! Weird right? But y'know, "normality" isn't a trait you expect from artists. They tend to be off-the-wall much of the time, if not batshit crazy.
