If your looking for a good JRPG on the PS3 you're gonna have to wait until Tales of Vesperia is ported.

Fortunately there are plenty of good JRPGs on the PS2 if you either have one or your PS3 is backwards compatible. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 and Persona 4 are, in my opinion, the closest things to gaming perfection in the world today so definitely give them a shot. Tales of the Abyss is also a great choice as well, mainly because of its fun battle system and the grade shop.

PSN has Final Fantasy VII so if none of the above options appeal to you then check it out. I wouldn't say it's the best Final Fantasy but it's definitely worth what you'll pay for it.

On that note, there's also Tales of Legendia, but I would recommend that a bit... less than Abyss. Seriously though, GET PERSONA 3 AND 4. If you like JRPGs at all, they're amazing.

It depends on your definition of a JRPG, since Monster Hunter isn't really a TRADITIONAL JRPG if you get my meaning.

And I think pedantically specifying the language I used is a little pointless, and since I find these forum arguments arduous and childish, I'm not going condone it any more.

Thanks for respectfully sharing your opinion...
Thank you for remaining civil and polite, and kudos for that underlying tone at the end. I'll admit I get a bit zealous against trivial posts, likely cause from coming directly off of browsing YouTube. The community there is definitely one of the worst I have encountered.

I guess the biggest issue here is what qualifies as an JRPG. I myself refer to them as Japanese games with RPG elements, rather than narrow them down to only those with a turn based battle. Of course, by that means Dirge of Cerberus could be considered a JRPG, which seems oddly wrong. It's really up to the OP to specify what to look for here.

Let's dig through my small collection of games for things not mentioned yet. Jade Cocoon here, as well as the Digimon World series (of which I'd recommend the first.) There's the Lunar Series, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Dragon Warrior series (I only have III for the GBC and Monsters) and Pokemon series.
AH! I empathize fully with your views on youtube. I think the attitude of the community is primarily based on peer-pressure, so that most people have set aggression as a default response.
And then I suppose it just snowballed.

I find that the style of the stereotypical JRPG is so cliche nowadays. It always seems to follow a specific formula, and I'd quite like to see one that's a little more experimental ala Mother 3.

I'm certainly not a fan of TBS fighting but I'm aware that some find it quite entertaining, and I probably would as well if it was less formulaic. Maybe the integration cutscene inspired fluid battles would be more entertaining.
Speaking of which I remember hearing about a similar idea bouncing around the new Final Fantasy bubble.
