Yes, this is a truly frightening film, it made me physically sick from watching it. If you want to see something that makes you lose faith in movies then definitely see it.Rationalization said:

i think it has the potential to be a modern sci-fi classic, if i dare say so (if the odyssey fanboys give it a chancethe biggest problem today with any medium is, in my opinion, that we have a tendency to judge things based on their age; if sth's young, it can be good, of course it can, but to be GREAT it must be old (if you catch my drift))

In the interests of a balanced discussion, I'm going to have to say avoid Sunshine like the Plague. It is a really, really, really, REALLY truly awfully bad piece of awful dredge. After the good first half hour it just goes downhill really fast.
More of a pyschological mind bender than out and out horror, but watch 'Moon' starring Sam Rockwell. Now THAT is a modern Sci-Fi classic.

More from boredom, omfg that movie was boring. I got an idea for a film, but before I pitch it to you it has to include instrumental music, odd colors and some shots of scenery for atleast an hour. Hmm...well by memory there's Screamers, but I believe that's more thriller than horror (and kinda average, but worth putting in a marathon lineup).
For Sci-Fi, I'd suggest Splice because that movie loved its twisted moments and was suitably creepy. Maybe not horror per-se, but it incorporated horror themes into itself.
There's also The Cube, which again is more thriller than horror but has most of the normal tropes. I personally enjoyed it, but it eventually evens out and loses the horror vibe unfortunately.

This might be a bit of stretch to call it horror, but try, "Sunshine". A large chunk of the first part of it is just really good Sci Fi. Towards the end, there's a lot of stuff that doesn't exactly fit the horror genre, but is scary, creepy and terrifying.
Well I thought the first half of doom didn't make much sense and all I thought through it was that it was a cheap remake of Alien but with better technology used. However when it got to the second half and all I saw was zombie killing from a FPP with the BFG I thought "Now I understand this!".
Alien and Predator movies are a good choice also I heard Pandorum gives a good amount of scares.
Though if you want real scares play a scarey game. Or better yet Silent Hill. Two Words. Pyramid! Head!

I appreciate all the suggestions, am making a small list to throw at my local dvd rental. Only one nitpick though: people keep recommending movies I referenced to in my original post; it's kind of a no brainer I've seen them already if I'm saying "more like this"
You should try out a film called Eden Log. I had no idea what it was about but it turned out to be a really dark, atmospheric, claustrophobic space sci-fi. I've watched all the films you're using as examples and I really think Eden Log is one you will enjoy.
