the Red Army was already pushing the Germans back strongly. the Germans never had a chance after Kursk, which was before d-day by quite some months. while d-day may have quickened the end of the war, it really wasn't hugely important other than in a symbolic manner. sure, less troops for the Russians to face, and more pressure form Stalin to get to Berlin first, but the ruskis were doing brilliantly of their own
True, America just showed up for the spoils, let everyone else do the dirty work for us...Damn us. (us as in me and America not US as in USA)

You hit the nail right on the head there, it isn't America I hate, its the attitudes of people like those in this topic and the government (which has the same attitude), talk about having a big ego.

Are they so ignorant as to think that only Americans use Google?

I like to think it's a small minority. No American I know IRL is like this.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!
It's a freaking picture for Christ's Sake!
So google chose to put a picture of Tetris up, has no one considered the fact that they started making that picture and on the day they were supposed to change it, someone mentioned D-Day and they said $#!T I forgot?
That is beside the point though, if this is really what's concerning political leaders, we are in some serious trouble. Tell the old farts to stop complaining and making ridiculous accusations against a SEARCH ENGINE!

Yes, why remember something that brought joy to the hearts of children and adults everywhere when we can remember the day all those people died on a beach...

Honestly if the people feel they need a google image to properly pay tribute to something, they probably didn't care much in the first place.
That morning and the people who died on that beach signifies the beginning of the end of Nazi Germany, you should be happy about it. Although I have to admit that Google would have a hard time making their logo represent something related to war.

It's not government officials. Because they DO have more important things going on. It's, as I said, a few morons with too much time on their hands, and access to global media. People need to stop seeing pundits like Rush Limbaugh, or this Todd Hudson jackass as the face of America. They don't represent the majority. They don't even represent a decent minority. They are just a handful of people who do nothing but make noise. They exist in every country. It's like if I started acting like the BNP was the voice of England. I'd be dead wrong.

umm, since when did it become Google's responsibility to remind us about things like this? It's a freaking search engine, not a calendar, it can celebrate what it fucking wants!

I am officialy ashamed to admit where I was born (the heart of Dixie, for anyone unfortunate enough to know where that is). More importantly, however-- What? come on! It could be the 64th anniversay of Noramndy, or the 66th-- why does such a traditionally insignifigant number merit a national holiday? It's right up there with that annual 9/11 thing, tbh...It was a memorable event, but the past is the past, no?

Really Todd, Really? Of everything that happened that day the fact that google spelt its name in tetris blocks is the most important and newsworthy thing that you could write about? Gimme a break.

Why do people think Google has to celebrate American stuff? They don't celebrate anything from my country either, but you won't catch me whining about it. In fact if they did I'd probably want to puke.

Also everyone knows Tetris is more important.

(visualises images of L-shaped blocks crushing German soldiers on the beaches of normandy)

The phrase "If you don't like my country, get out", makes sense. If you don't like someplace, don't fucking be there. For both common sense and the national defense. I wouldn't want people who didn't like my house in my house. They might break some thing or something of that class.
Hold on here, I'm from Australia and there are sure as hell some things I don't like about my country, and I'm well within my rights to work to change these things, I don't know how things are done in America as I don't know much about your laws other then what you see on TV shows, but it was my understanding that you had those same rights as well.
And what if nobody else likes your changes? What if the vast majority don't want your changes? They're well within their right to tell you to get the fuck out.

For the record, I was referring to people disliking the country itself, not the way we drive on the road or how we classify our videogames. It's the radio station arguement; if you don't like it, change the channel, don't call in and ***** about what you don't like when it's clearly popular with the majority of it's listeners.

And if the problems in your country really matter to you, you'd be spending your time making efforts to change them, not fuck about on a pointless fucking internet forum.
