I'm confused, if Opera is so much better, why does it seem to fall behind Chrome in simple tests

Can someone explain?

and apparently the one that truly sucks is safari.
Last time I tried using Mouse Gestures in Chrome in required a plug-in, and the responsiveness was too low. Do you use mouse gestures for back, forward, new tab, close tab, etc?

Opera invented mouse gestures and still does them best last I checked, but maybe Chrome has made a better copy by now. Opera has a lot of default features, so I'm not used to digging through plug-ins.

Firefox here, never gonna change unless they stop making it competitive with the others. If it goes the way of Netscape Navigator...

Moo...

Wow THAT's news!
People still use Explorer?
I'll have you know IE9 is a pretty decent browser, pinned sites are incredibly useful although the lack of an ad blocker almost kills it for me.
What? You can bookmark pages on Chrome and the New Tab displays most visited websites

Chrome is such a memory hog though...
I suppose. I have to be careful running more than one tab when I'm at home or else it shuts down.
Then again my home connection is crap.
I have a great connection and I just built a damn good computer about 3 months ago. My computer can handle it, it's just still a lot more than anything else. Christ, if I have a bunch of tabs open I'll check my task manager and it'll tell me that it's using 200 mb of memory

And rightly so. Firefox has been a clunky mess since its second year, and continues to run purely on adopter fervor.

Just look at the trends in the graph. While most of chrome share is coming from ie, there is an obvious downward trend in FF as well-- with no sign of abatement.

Once you go chrome, you never go back.

My browsing habits typically involve 30 browser instances with 5-10 tabs each. Firefox and IE both fail miserably under this type of load, and the restore functions of chrome put both to shame in the event of a crash.

I don't personally use mouse gestures, but I can. I didn't realize I downloaded a plug-in if I did. But that seems unbelievably minor, I mean, no one I know use mouse gestures that much, and as personal opinion, I'd rather be able to down load the things I see as necessary than have a huge download thats full of shit I'll never use.

Internet Explorer 6 is only used by 8.3 percent of the world right now. Which is still alot.

http://www.ie6countdown.com/#

So now it's up to us to make them switch to chrome. Though strangely enough, there are companies that make certain functions on their sites incompatible with chrome... Or at least that's what I've been noticing.

Blasted fools don't know how to recognize where their allegiances should lie.

(It's chrome, that's where)

Hm. Well, I use IE9, and for the load I put it under (never more than about 8 tabs) it performs just fine. Why would I need more tabs!? Unless I'm browsing something like TV Tropes. Maybe then.

Regardless, I'll never really understand the IE hate.

Well, perhaps not exactly firmly. Chrome holds a slim lead with 25.69 percent of internet denizens using Google's slim browser, while Firefox is used by 25.23 percent - a difference of just .43 percent for those of you too lazy to pop open a calculator.
Erm, .46 percent [insert dickish perhaps you should have used a calculator joke].

EDIT: I hope this comment is taken in the light hearted way it was intended and I am not warned/suspended/banned.

Yea... wanna know why? Because it's so much BETTER than Firefox. Unless you try to install Skype plugins, then it becomes a big pile of pants...

Nonetheless, I'm partially surprised that IE is still top (what with it being so crap) but only partially because most businesses won't allow "fun" browsers on work computers because it might distract employees...
Firefox still wins for me because of the plug-ins. It may be bordering on bloat but Firefox has a functionality (for me) that Chrome doesn't have (yet).

Posting from a work computer that only has IE7. I remember the old days booting Netscape and opening AltaVista or Ask Jeeves, ahh memories.

Apologies for the double post Mozilla Firefox is playing up. Perhaps the 25.69% are on to something.

I'm not sure what to say, since browsing with mouse gestures is as fundamental to me as having a mouse wheel or having tabs in my browser. It would be like someone from 2001 saying "mouse wheel and tabs sound unbelievable minor, I mean, no one I know use them that much." In his own way he would be right, these are minor improvements to the browsing experience and most people are very crude in the way they use computers.

I'm not surprised at this. Recently I've begun to notice that firefox has been taking longer and longer to start up and eats up huge amounts of ram. The only thing keeping me away from Chrome is a distrust of google's privacy morals.

The difference is .46 actually, and i didn't use a calculator.

I work in a technical supporte related job and i cant believe how many people use IE6 and the technicians that after installing Windows XP don't upgrade the browser.

That site about eliminating IE6 mentions that they want everybody using IE9, too bad it doesn't work on XP.

I tend to use chrome, but that's mostly because it's light on processing power. My netbook tends to chug under the amount of tabs I open on anything else.

25.69 - 25.23 = .46

Am I the only one who noticed this?

Anyways, I've been noticing FF's lack of innovation and improvement lately, but I still refuse to join up with Google's quest for world domination.

I'm amused by the elitists boasting their google chrome browser like they're part of the company. Also have to be ignorant to the fact google and verizon have been trying to take down net neutrality for a while now.

OT: It's mostly Chinas fault IE6 is still in use, over 40% of IE6 use is there.
