What games have you guys played that you think will contend for game of the year in 2009?

Obvious everyone's favorite BORDERLANDS is a huge talk right now. Batman Arklam Asylum should be up there. That is all of I can think of at the moment so feel free to add on to the thread.

Games coming out soon that could contend: COD MW2, L4D2

If DA:O is as good as it looks, it could be a contender (I am a fool who madly hopes something other than an FPS will win this title).

i just think its an amazing game tim schafer got everything right in it. yes the missions can get repetitive after a while but whats not to love the sountrack is near perfect its just a great game (o and no quick time events =D)

Wow, to be honest I think it is quite a stretch to say uncharted 2 will win. Especially with the competition of MW2, Batman AA, and Borderlands.

Borderlands, Uncharted 2, Batman, Modern Warfare 2, and Left 4 Dead 2 are the only games that will touch the title of GOTY. They should start printing "GOTY Edition" MW2 boxes because that beast will win no matter how crappy it is. But my vote will go to Batman, haven't beat Borderlands yet and Uncharted was "meh" for me.

Call of Duty Fans are insane. The game isn't even out yet and lots have already decided its the best thing ever. Call of Duty 4 is awesome and everything, but its not like a successful franchise has ever had a failure of a sequel right?

Uncharted 2 deserves a nomination, but if it won I'd be disappointed.

Left 4 Dead 2 is probably not an option, simply because its a purely multiplayer experience which is often overlooked by reviewers.

Let me throw out Batman: Arkham Asylum. Mutli-platform, awesome scores, fans loved it and we've been waiting on a great Batman games for like a decade.

Remember Multi-platform is really important. You give a PS3 or Xbox360 exclusive a GOTY award and you get your forums torn apart by flaming fanboys of fury.

Modern Warfare will sell awesome, and will be a blast, but it's not going to be GOTY.
Batman was excellent, but not good enough to make it GOTY.
And Borderlands will be nominated, but will not win. It's too...grindy. Great game, not GOTY.

Uncharted 2 will win. It deserves it.

I'm thinking Uncharted 2 and Arkham Asylum will be on there. It depends on the particular award show to determine whether or not Borderlands and Brutal Legend will be on there. If it's a fan based one, yes, critics, no. They liked em, but not overtly so. Which is kinda odd really.

Just finished playing it. Probably the best PS3 game I've played.

Batman: AA takes the cake for me so far, although Brütal Legend is not far behind (in my humble opinion).
As for Uncharted 2, I haven't played it yet, so I can't comment or judge on that matter.
Also, I'm still waiting to see how Assassin's Creed 2 turns out.

Reviewers seem to agree with you, but I really hope you're wrong. I've never seen a game with so much work clearly put into it cause such a bland reaction in the people who play it. Ask anyone whose played it, the response is almost always the same.

"Yeah, I really liked it"

I hear that stuff day in and day out at my shop. Meanwhile people will rant my ears off for 20 minutes about Call of Duty 4, tell me long, in-depth stories about how they took out the guys in the Hospital challenge map or go on and on about the assholes they were stuck with last night in Left 4 Dead.

These games get people excited. Everyone respects Uncharted 2, but it's just too "Hollywood Movie" to excite them.

No not really. The game was by far the favorite of most critics. Seriously, Batman and Borderlands, despite being very good, got a lot of 8's from what I've seen, but Uncharted got pretty much universal perfect or near perfect scores.

In a fan vote, I think those games have a better chance, but not when the critics decide.

It happens a lot. Xplay picked Fable 2 as GOTY last year (damn them!)
Back in 04, most critics picked RE4, while the fans picked other games. It happens far too many times honestly.
