GOTY contenders

Call of Duty Fans are insane. The game isn't even out yet and lots have already decided its the best thing ever. Call of Duty 4 is awesome and everything, but its not like a successful franchise has ever had a failure of a sequel right?

Uncharted 2 deserves a nomination, but if it won I'd be disappointed.

Left 4 Dead 2 is probably not an option, simply because its a purely multiplayer experience which is often overlooked by reviewers.

Let me throw out Batman: Arkham Asylum. Mutli-platform, awesome scores, fans loved it and we've been waiting on a great Batman games for like a decade.

Remember Multi-platform is really important. You give a PS3 or Xbox360 exclusive a GOTY award and you get your forums torn apart by flaming fanboys of fury.

Well L4D2 will probably clean most multiplayer awards like last year.

For GotY..hmm maybe Batman:AA or Dragon Age:Origins if it turns out to be good.

Objectively:

Arkham Asylum and Among Thieves are the ones I recall have caused the heavies nerdgasms among critics. Street Fighter IV Is a possible contender as well.

As for the unreleased a fair guess is Modern Warfare 2 is going to be nominated. Assassin's Creed 2 and Dragon Age have a chance of making it in as well.

Wouldn't count out InFamous and/or Prototype either.

Next year starcraft 2 will win, and 2011 or 2012 will prolyl go to D3, dependant on when blizz gets it out, same reason as above.

I doubt that an exclusive will get it, so in other words, demon souls, infamous, uncharted 2 L4D2 etc. MW2 Will get it as the media loves that kind of thing.

Arkham Asylum and Amoung Thieves are my first two obvious choices. Modern Warfare 2 has a good chance.

All the other games MAY be massive but we can't be sure at this moment.

Hard to say. I haven't played a really spectacular game yet this year, but I'll be trying Borderlands soon.

On the multiplayer front it will probably be MW2 for me. Although I havn't played it yet, after COD4 which I still play more than anything to this day, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be awesome.

But singleplayerwise it's without a doubt Uncharted 2 for me. It blew me away. It's definitely one of the best singleplayer experiences I've ever had and that's coming from a guy who's hard to impress.

Dragon Age Origin's deserves a frickin game of the year. Bioware's been working on it since 2004 for fuck sake. MW2 can get lost, damn FPS'.

I can kind of see the appeal of it, but it just wasn't for me, and I am not sure how it got to be so insanely popular. I like a little less realism in my shooters.

OT: Borderlands is excellent but lacking polish and I think that will discount it from GOTY. However, it's probably my GOTY so far. I would have to think that Uncharted 2, Dragon Age, Left 4 Dead 2 and perhaps even Assassin's Creed 2 could win. Brutal Legend and Batman: AA deserve honorable mentions.

As of now (given it is October and will not guess and what a game should be...)

I was surprised how much I enjoyed Infamous and Prototype (similar titles) and really enjoyed Batman. Resident Evil 5 is good with a friend playing in co-op,

Most fun I had this year was playing Blazblue with friends, this is now my favorite fighting game of all time. I never thought a genre I essentially gave up on years ago would ever pull me back in.

I will say ask me again in January and Ratchet and Clank (love those games) and Assasin's Creed will likely make a strong case and Dragon Age will be there in the running as well.

i just think its an amazing game tim schafer got everything right in it. yes the missions can get repetitive after a while but whats not to love the sountrack is near perfect its just a great game (o and no quick time events =D)

While I agree with you, the guitar riffs were total QTE's. Although, just more interesting than usual.

Borderlands, Uncharted 2, Arkham Asylum, all triumphs in gaming. Uncharted 2 makes cinematic gaming a distinct posibility, while Arkham Asylum blends stealth and action like a blender with whipped cream and water. Borderlands... I've only played this game for a little while, but its shaping up to be great
