Am I the only one who is sick of "gramers", for those of you who don't know, a "gramer" is jock who thinks they are a gamer, and often play nothing but Madden, Halo and GTA. They are the people who refer to any game that isn't an FPS, or colored completely gray and brown as "GAY". They are the ones who ruined all creativity in video games by only buying shooters. Remember old video game plots? like Castlevania, in which Dracula was king of all monsters, Including the grim reaper, and you killed him with a whip.Or "Master Blaster" In which a boy found a tank under his house and used it to save his radioactive pet frog. Now because of "Gramers" every storyline in a mainstream game has to have at least one space marine.

Is there any hope left for true gamers?

What do you define as a "True" gamer?
If they own a game console/Machine, and partake in the hobby, then they ARE gamers.

And just for the record, Creativity isn't JUST defunct because of "Gramers." For publishers, going with a generic FPS is probably going to be the more profitable and safer decision, rather than agreeing to publish a wacky and creative game with alot of heart. I mean, look at Psychonauts. In my opinion, it was an excellent game. Very creative, with alot of heart. Took Tim Schaffer quite a while to find a publisher for it. And what happened?
The game then sold horribly, and Majesco was financially screwed.

From a CEO's perspective, Safer is the better option. If they know something will sell well, they will keep pumping them out there. And let's not forget that one of a companies biggest priorities is to keep itself alive.

And finally: It's all for the purpose of fun. They like it, so let them like it! They can have their opinions, and you can have yours.

I think I know a couple of people like that, who look down on me for playing Braid or Psychonauts just because they have some bright colours and interesting characters in them. Just ignore them I say.

You forgot to include COD 4 in your list. There are people I know who play nothing else.

I've never heard of a gramer before and just because someone only plays GTA or some FPS they're not "true gamers"? This is like that casual vs. hardcore argument and I think it's just a bunch of bullshit, and game plots have been changing yes, but they are much better now, sure they're not as original as they used to be but they are much better (most of them anyway).

Just because someone only plays one or two genres doesn't make them any less of a gamer.

You condem them for liking and playing only Madden Gta and Halo?
what steriotyping

Anyway, if they own a console and play they are gamers, get used to it if you feel like someone you perceive as "assholish" or something else, is moving into your territory.
Go play Soccer, move in on theres if you feel like that. and id doubt theyd give you a name like "those no good Jrockers"

gramer? Did I get that right?
Well sure I know a lot of those people, but they are in fact gamers
I mean I play my fair share of games don't get me wrong it's just they are better snipers then me in Halo and can win Madden in like 4 turns and throw a football better then I can

So there's a trade off. They can be jock gamers and I can be a nerd gamer.

They are gamers. If you really wanted games with more story you'd buy only those, and you'd have to convince everyone else to do the same. Problem is, some people just like mind numbing action so that's not going to happen.

These people don't exist in my high school because they wouldn't have been able to get in. But I know several people from elementary school like that. Suffice to say they are quite dumb and often what they say make me think, "Cleanse it with Fire!"

Oh sorry I forgot to define "true" gamer (thanks xxhazyshadowsxx)a true gamer is someone who believes in gaming as a capable art form and that it may be a simple toy but it can also be much more, examples of true gamers games, No more heroes, Zelda, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, and Psychonauts. to name a few. Note the term "Gramer" was coined in a webisode of "Nametags" a show on screwattack.com, It may have come before that though.

Hey! There's nothing wrong with Space Marines!
Master Chief is a Spartan, so leave the Astartes out of this.
and gamers choose whatever they want to play. If they can only get the hang of an FPS, let them play it. makes no real difference. the game's gonna get sold anyway.

You know why they play Madden, Halo, and GTA? Because they think it's FUN. By your description, I'd assume you think they're just stupid jocks who like big explosions and football and manliness. Who cares what they like? Let them play those games. Let them talk about some kickass grenade stick at lunch. Ignore them and go play something that you like to play.

Oh, and, you mixed up the "Master" and the "Blaster".

So, you are hating on a particular group of people who like a different kind of game than you do. That doesn't seem very tolerant. A company is going to design games that will bring them profits, otherwise they wouldn't be in business for very long. Besides, there are plenty of games out there that aren't the three you mentioned, nor are they in the same genre.

I'm totally fine with those games, I just don't like the people who never open up to anything different. and as this number of close minded individuals rises, quality and originality goes down. Need I bring up the Micheal Bay effect?
