I still haven't seen Moon. It's a pain to find where I live, and I'd rather the DVD than download it.

Inception's pretty good, if that counts.
I'd count it. It's based on science that is currently fictional, therefore Science-Fiction.

Now that we're in 2011, I've officially named District 9 my film of the decade, so that gets huge recommendations from me. Also previously mentioned are Moon (worth seeing for what should have been at least an Oscar-nominated performance by Sam Rockwell) and Starship Troopers

District 9
Starwars (any of them)
Star Wars is more Science Fantasy though. I suppose if the creator counts them it's fine, but otherwise the futuristic tech of the world could be removed and the story would still be the same. That's typically impossible with most hard sci-fi films.

Looking at the movies on my shelf that haven't been mentioned, I can heartily recommend the original Star Wars trilogy, Stargate, and the first six Star Trek films -- aside from the fifth one, which sucked. With the stuff that's been mentioned by other posters, I'm going to second (or third, or whatever) Blade Runner. Absolutely worth the cost of admission -- to the point that I'm seriously considering a used copy of the suitcase edition that comes with every cut of the film, that my local record shop has for $30 something.

Edit: Majorly ninja'd. but my recommendations still stand.

Good ol Space Odyssey. But it's only great if you think about it. That film is anything but easily accessible.
Seconded. If you don't turn your brain off, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a very deep and thought provoking film. It's also one of the few science fiction movies where outer space is depicted realistically.

Finally, it's got HAL, one of the most iconic entities in the history of science fiction.

A note: Your mileage may vary on Blade Runner.

I like it, many people like it, and a ton of people DESPISE it.

It isn't traditional sci-fi by any means and is much closer to a noir movie that happens to be set in the future. The pacing is often slow even by neo-noir standards (this seems to be the most common complaint). Imagine cyberpunk without all of the "cool stuff". It has the grittiness, the noir themes, the dystopia, the rebellion, and the moral ambiguity, but none of the stupidly cool gadgets. If you want to be all filmy about it, it feats more neatly within the conventions of technothrillers than typical sci-fi.

And for the love of god, if you are going to watch it, get one of the restored cuts with the original ending and without the awful, cheesy voiceovers.
