It'll be hard to find time, but i'll be posting here the moment it's finished. Waiting for a good moment will give me time to think of a good line to start on though. I think it'll be "If i don't survive, tell my girlfriend... i wish I'd stayed with my ex."

A note: Your mileage may vary on Blade Runner.

I like it, many people like it, and a ton of people DESPISE it.

It isn't traditional sci-fi by any means and is much closer to a noir movie that happens to be set in the future. The pacing is often slow even by neo-noir standards (this seems to be the most common complaint). Imagine cyberpunk without all of the "cool stuff". It has the grittiness, the noir themes, the dystopia, the rebellion, and the moral ambiguity, but none of the stupidly cool gadgets. If you want to be all filmy about it, it feats more neatly within the conventions of technothrillers than typical sci-fi.

Blade Runner's a funny case, and a good illustration of my theory that any genre film that succeeds, even to a modest extent, in transcending the putative limits of genre will proclaimed a work of astonishing genius by fans. It may be slow, but it's presented brilliantly nd has atmosphere you could cut with a knife. I think the haters just represent a backlash to the sometimes excessive praise the film receives.

Visually, Blade Runner is an absolute must see for anyone interested in an example of how clever filmmaking dealt with the challenges of presenting a futuristic world in the days before CG. And, yes, do watch it in hi def. It's a complete waste otherwise.

I would also recommend "Children of Men," despite it being more of a thriller than a sci fi film. It scratches a certain itch and does it very well.

I recommend the original Alien, 12 Monkeys, and the Back to the Future trilogy. Yes, in that order.

A really good sci-fi film (more fantasy I suppose) is Ink. You should really check it out, it came out this past year and I've watched it half a dozen times already.

Also, Starship Troopers 3 is actually really good and hysterical. Yes it's a trilogy, but the second is a really bad horror movie. Almost Dead Spacish if you can believe that. But the third one is just ridiculous.

Outland with Sean Connery, it played off the 'space Western' concept way before it got popular.

Also, Moon was really well done, I really liked the style of the setting, seemed very 'real'.

Do Anime sci-fi Movies count? That medium has a plethora of Sci-Fi goodness. Nausicaa and Ghost in the Shell are good starts.
Solaris is a good old-school sci-fi romp.
The Road, a fairly recent apocalyptic film is AMAZING, much better than Book of Eli.
Serenity is a must see, even if you haven't seen the series.
And Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is actually sci-fi and a great watch.

Tarkovsky's Solaris and Stalker, they are slow moving in a typically Tarkovsky way, but mesmerising, particularly Solaris. Blade Runner has been mentioned, but deserves another mention. Throw in Escape from New York, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China (Not Sci-fi but it rounds out the Kurt Russell/John Carpenter trilogy off nicely) for a fun time after the intellectualism of the previous three and we are done.
