I loved, and at the same time could not grasp that as a kid.

Spoiler: I think my favourite ending was for the first FEAR.

You just got outside, still shaken from all the strange, and incredibly immersing and intense encounters you just witnessed, when suddenly in the distance, you see a giant explosion, sort off like a nuke blowing up. If you look up, you see giant stuff like cars, and big metal beams flying around. You want to go somewhere, but you don't want to go back the way you came. Down the road away from the explosion is blocked, and you can't go the other way. The only direction you can take, is towards the blast area!
Hoping you can take some sort off side passage in that direction, you head off that way. Making some progress, you see the explosion intensifying! More dust and debris is coming your way and you can only pray that you can make it. Suddenly, another blast wave rolls over and even though you are trying to move forward, the surge of air halts you from making any progress at all. The wave increases in power, and suddenly overcomes your ability to stand your ground, and you are pushed back against the fence that was blocking your path! Unable to move at all, your vision fades to black, and it's all over...

Well it isn't exactly the last part of the game, you get a cut scene afterwards, but this part really moved me and I found it very exciting because of the helplessness.

All MGS have a pretty solid ending.

Gameplay wise I liked the one of Hitman: Bloodlines or money ? (not sure about the title, but it's the newest one)

The funeral scene is just awesome.
