i was kinda suspicious about this change, but now i'm fully for it because i'm worried if i say against it i'll be roped in with One Million Moms, and i'd much rather support of gay superhero than be associated with those bigots

Was that a real comic?

This is all very much canon.
So Spiderman was sexually molested by a gay man earlier in his life.

I wonder if they'll cover this part of his past in that upcoming Amazing Spiderman movie.
As a part of a stunt of a level never before seen, Marvel and DC have made an agreement to merge their movie universes and Peter Parker's youth's mystery molestor will turn out to be The Green lantern.

They're pulling a double cross on us. They're making us think they're aiming for increased social acceptance of gays, but they're actually allied with One million moms to make gays out as evil sodomites.
It will all become clear in the upcoming Spiderman movie.

I wish they'd stop BEATING ROUND THE BUSH and make Wounder Women a lesbian *teehee* still, Green Lantern, thats impressive on their part.
They sorta already mentioned this. In one WW comic, she decides to romance her new partner, and she tells him that she's having to adapt her people's culture to romance with a man, because it's normally done between two women. She may be Bi, but since Paradise Island is all-female only, apparently all the romances there are between two women.
Best of both I suppose and this still leaves the possibility of Wounder-Bat-babies.

Well...consider me extremely pissed off (Not that I'm against gay people just so you know now) I LOVED Alan Scott and not just because he's Green Lantern but because he's a kick ass old man or WAS. Now they're turning him into a young man and gay and it's just like everything that's come before doesn't even matter anymore, I might as well not even buy any of the pre-New 52 comics anymore! Fuck you DC, fuck you

The amount of butthurt and rage... It would be overwhelming. The Escapist would explode while the US would implode as a result of the sheer amount of controversy.
The entirety of Kansas would be flooded by the jizz flowing forth from the Westboro baptist church headquarters.
The headquarters would float on top of it all like some sort of second ark, trying to collect various animals.

*shrug* Okay.
I guess the new Greg Lantern story-arc will be interesting for the many fans the character with his magic power ring undoubtedly has.

Was there this much debate about the legitimacy of changing an aspect of a fictional character's 'physical' being when Nick Fury went from being a grizzled, caucasian, WWII vet, to being Samuel L M%$^&r F#$%^n' Jackson?

For those arguing about the wrongness of changing the sexuality of an established character from hetero to homo because 'the gays' would be upset if anyone changed an established gay character to a straightey - Movie Bob (to use the most easily accessible reference) did a Big Picture episode about this very thing a while back. White, middle-class heterosexuality is the vast, vast majority of representation in Western media/fiction, while anything straying from that social ideal is generally vastly under-represented, or grossly stereotyped and misrepresented. Writing (or rewriting) a fictional character (who doesn't actually exist) in a way which not only promotes, but also better represents the diversity of the human experience, is not the same as changing a character to better fit the mainstream by removing that aspect which makes them a minority or diverse.

Yeah DC could legitimately be accused of milking a publicity stunt and then finishing with an anti-climax - and I seriously wanted it to be the Flash, Barry Allen or Wally West - but for any gay kid out there who loves their comics, this is the kind of thing which provides the kinds of role models and a sense of place and acceptance in the world which has never really existed before, and that has me all kinds of excited for just what that might mean for future generations.

Meh, I'd say my money was on Batman, but that's pointless since he IS gay...

The fact that this whole "which character is gay" is been made into a mini-spectacle is one of the major things wrong with society.

Ladies and gentlement, here is your winner!
Move over Dolly Madison, there's a better zinger now!

And for all you Legion of Superheroes haters out there, Matter Eater Lad saved the universe once by eating the Miracle Machine to deprive Omega of power. Yeah. I'm not keeping a straight face. I think Bouncing Boy could take him down in a fair fight.

Not sure if anyone else brought that up, as I've had no time to sift through the other posts, but this smells like a weak attempt at a publicity stunt. They made this big deal about one of their "iconic characters being gay" to get attention, almost as if they needed to have an obligatory gay, only to choose Alan Scott.

Not only does this feel like "we need a gay character because that's what all the cool kids do", but the character they chose just feels anti climactic. It could be due to fear of fan backlash had they chosen, say, Batman.

In short. Lazy, safe, obligatory gay super hero.

I feel like people are being a little too hard on the choice. Sure Alan Scott isn't the most well known lantern any more, but that doesn't change the fact that he's still the O.G. He's been around even in modern comics and hardcore fans, the ones most likely to cause a shit storm when there precious continuity is altered, are definitely familiar with him. And honestly, who else could they pick? Wonder Woman is too obvious, Batman has his boy ward which is already questionable enough, Green Arrow and Black Canary are a major super couple, and we all knew there was no way in hell it was gonna be Superman.
