I heard that the suit (as bad as it looks) is cgi. Which would explain alot.

Yea, I like Green Lantern. One of DC's strongest characters.

A little weak in terms of enemies, aside from Sinestro. But the concept of GL has definitely changed from the better. Though it can be hard for someone to fully understand it when starting, since there are multiple Green Lanterns, different ages, one of them being magic, the others part of the Green Lantern Corps.

My favorite version of GL would probably be the alternate Hal Jordan from Superman: Red Son- where he's a Captain Miller, Apocalypse Now kind of Vietnam POW veteran, who honed his concentration and willpower during his time being held by Vietcong. During which, he would construct an elaborate mental prison where he oversaw and tortured the men who beat and tortured himself. Red Son is great by itself, but that was just a really interesting take on the character, I thought

As for the Spectrum of Corps, I thought the idea was... kind of mediocre. It works though, better than I thought it would, and worked well for a big event like Blackest Night. (Lex Luthor as an Orange Lantern was awesome) Fit well in the Justice League sort of context, rather than just GL.

What I didn't like about them, was that each Corps had its own rhyme/oath to accompany it... I thought that was just... cheesy.

So Escapists, let's hear your thoughts. Do you read the comic? What do you think of it? Are you looking forward to the movie, or do you think it'll be terrible? Do you you have a favorite Lantern or storyline? Do you even know who the Green Lantern is? I'm interested in anything you have to contribute to a discussion, so... discuss.
I've only ever noticed Lantern in the compilation comics. Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Kingdom Come. He's probably one of the top 10 coolest DC heroes.

-snip-

As for the movie, it's looking pretty good. Hopefully Ryan Reynolds can pull off a character as serious as him.
You seem to have a pretty high opinion of the character. You'll definitely enjoy his own series.

Regarding Ryan Reynolds (+1 alliteration), I don't think he'll have too much trouble with the character. Hal Jordan isn't exactly Batman; he makes the occasional wisecrack.

Eh, most non-Batman superheroes (at least in my opinion) tend to only have something like 2-4 particularly noteworthy enemies, so I don't really see that big of a problem with the Green Lantern rogues gallery.

Superman: Red Son sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to read it some time. Do I need to have any prior knowledge of Superman to understand it? I've been meaning to read up on him anyway.

I just bought Sinestro Corps War volume 1. It was pretty good. The art was really good and the story kept me going even though I didn't know much of the Green Lantern backstory.
Have you read any other stories? I found that the Sinestro Corps War was when Green Lantern got really good.
I haven't. Other than that trade, my only real exposure to the character was through Justice League/ Justice Leauge Unlimited. So other then Sinestro Corps War volume 2, what Green Lantern trades would you recommend?

I memorized the oath since I was a boy: In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let all those who worship evils might, fear my power, Green Lanterns Light!
It's "beware my power" not fear. Sorry, my geek came through.

And I really loved the Hal Jordan & Barry Allan (2nd Flash) crossover stories, some of them are astonishingly funny. Like the time when they go camping with their Golden Age equivalents. And the running gag of Barry always lending Hal money.
Of course GL alone is awesome too, don't get me wrong there.

It's all pretty good, but specifically I'd recommend the Sinestro Corps. War tie-in called Tales of the Sinestro Corps. if you want more info on the Corps., as well as Secret Origin, Rage of the Red Lanterns, and Agent Orange, which all lead up to the excellent Blackest Night.

Personally I like "Fear my power" better.
