1. Comstock has been syphoning Elizabeth's power for YEARS, so he has a hell of a lot more of it than she does, currently. That's why he was able to use it to CREATE a version of Elizabeth's step mother that was based off of HER feelings. At the end of the game, because it's the multiverse, Elizabeth IS able to create new 'verses because of her power. Remember when she said it's a form of wish fulfillment? This is why. If she wants something bad enough, if there's not already a universe where that's happening, she'll MAKE one. Yes, I know, technically they all exist; it's the multiverse, idfk, just suspend disbelief. I only vaguely understand it myself.zumbledum said:And true she may not be able to create worlds , or she may , if she cant the whole bit with her mother is a bit hard to explain but that wasn't my point. they used her loosing power through the siphon as a plot device as to why she can only open tears across dimensions and not space or time, and that she can only use a tear which is already their in its nascent form. BUT she creates a tear in front of a picture of Paris that crosses not just dimensions but space and time.
Of course that version of Columbia existed, its an infinite multiverse. there are ones which crashed, exploded got hit by an asteroid, Comstock dies every day in a million different ways from tripping getting out of bed to left eye aneurysm any number or tears could of let in some influence leading to a peaceful movement theres an infinite number of possibiites that are never considered. there are ones where comstock sees the error of his ways and welcomes the false shepherd , there are ones .. you get my point its an infinite multiverse not a convenient few and fitting the criteria provided verse.
Liz and powers, LIz and Dewitt and the only two who are not native to their plane though , comstock fink and various others in columbia use tears to get stuff but they are still in their dimension. and Lutece most definitely does get power they are free wheeling and outside normal space time. they have re run this last experiment over 120 times.
lets just say skipped a generation ?
maybe comstock could of talked lutece into abducting maybe not but thats not the point as the story would of changed and choice would of been made. its an infinte multiverse thing you cant allow all possibilities then realize one doesn't fit and just smudge it.
Bookers wife doenst die in childbirth in an infinte number of planes. this is the problem with infinte multiverse no one ever thinks it out.
In the infinte universe tree amongst the infinte branches one splits off and down the path to earth being formed, a near infinte number of branches along this never see humans appear. in the near infinte number of branches down this tree in nearly all booker wont be born neither will his wife, if we prune the tree to the branches where they do meet and marry there is still an infinte number of outcomes. ones where Booker isnt a murdering racist and they live happily she dies in some of childbirth before that in many and never in a lot to. there are only a tiny few branches of Booker deWitt's fights in wounded knee. there are millions of events and infinite combinations of ways for them to play out in his back story to lead to anything happening , hes president in one, a doctor with the skill to save his wife from the complication that she doesnt get in this branch in only one in 8 will all 3 be the right sex for the story.
Not time traveling? open to debate frankly. its not clear ill grant you. but Elizabeth is talking before you go there she isnt happy with just killing this comstock she wants every comstock in every world gone and the only way that she picks is to get all of her versions from these branches and they drown booker. for this to erase all comstocks the effect has to occur back in time, just killing one booker then and there will have just as little effect as killing the one comstock did. whether they time travel or not it is clear through what she is aiming to to achieve she can now weave this shit like a tapestry affecting infinite number of branches and pulling any number of selcted strands together to be affected by one choice.
This of course will now lead me straight back into its an infinite universe rant. there are an infinite number ot better ways to deal with the problem and self erasure is plain stupid.
2. If you want convenient, then you clearly don't want a game. You might as well open a door and have comstock hand baby anna to you. It isn't about convenience. Anyway, "good ending" universes for Comstock are far and few between. What about all the universe where it ends badly? They outnumber the good to a very large extent. You can't get a happy ending for all of them, because there aren't enough happy ending universes for all of them. The only way to be rid of comstock and to prevent "Elizabeth" from existing is to drown comstock at birth. I would also argue that the multiverse only splits on moderately important decisions and above. Clear cut, deliberate decisions, not something like taking a step to the right when you could take a step to the left. I would ALSO argue that people's nature tends to limit the number of universe that diverge from their choices. Booker would never beat his wife, for instance, he's too nice of a guy for that. Comstock would never NOT build columbia, because his ambition wouldn't allow him to.
3. Not sure what you're saying here.
4. And in those universes Booker didn't sell Anna, so we don't care about those universes.
5. Once again, we don't care about those universes. We're playing in a "Bad ending" universe, and all that matters to us is fixing that bad ending.
6. Ok. Universe travel CAN be time travel, but time travel can never be universe travel. Time travel is traveling through time in the SAME universe. Universe travel is entering another universe, whether at a different point in space and time or not. The point is, it's another universe. Elizabeth can't travel through time specifically. She can travel to a point in a universe which is, say, 30 years in the future, but it'll still be ANOTHER UNIVERSE, with all the differences that come with it.
I'm really not understanding your point of view. The game, and the erasure at the ending, is focused PURELY on the decision of the baptism at Wounded Knee. The reason the erasure works is because the setting of the baptism, the pond, is outside of space and time. Something like the 5th dimension, I read somewhere. When Elizabeth drowns Booker, she isn't drowning BOOKER, she's killing the DECISION that he made that day. It's basically symbolism up the ass with the ending, and they never really signal that, so everyone is confused.
