I think I really undersand what he means about hardcore. You know what really annoyed me about STALKER? That the dificulty slider is hidden in the folds of the complicated options menu, and the default difficulty setting is Master(Kick you in the balls while you're lying on the ground hard)!

Y'know, I really sympathize with this individual and his assessment of the market of which I am a part- you see when I try to do something I can hardly ever be bothered to go fully into it to make it a real success, especially when there's a lot of potential it's just a pain. When inevitably failure strikes down my meager attempts to sell my services, I do not defend myself, or take responsibility because god knows my ego wouldn't allow me to, so I attack the concept of the structure t5hat denies me.

It's a very american attitude I think.

Man, so many people have taken what he said out of context, I'm starting to wonder if I even understood him correctly.

You American wussies. What's the matter, you don't like kilts, do ya? Afraid of a little wind, are ya? I feel so exposed, boo hoo! Well that's the point, isn't it? Free as a bird, flying over your eggs ya are, but noooooooo, not you! It chafes, it chafes, boo hoo!

Seriously. STALKER was the most amazing FPS to come along since Half-Life 2 at the very least, and for my money it's a far better game. STALKER is a must-have for any fan of the genre.

Personally I've always been more of a RPG genre fan, however both STALKERS come as an exception. It's a game where you have to use that thing on your head... you know a brain! I can play most of nowaday shooters on hard forgetting the save button. Fairly recent games like FarCry, Crysis, Stalker, Half life2 they tend give you the feel of being in a real dangerous scenario, rather than most nowaday games where there's not much difference between the Terminator and you.

Again with the thread necro Jursa. What's the point, really?

Even though I haven't played the game, I'll have to agree with the philosophy behind what's been said in that interview.

I don't think I have to explain it further than that Impending Epic Fail that shall be Diablo 3...
... MAN WHAT? This has nothing to do with Diablo 3! Don't start that again!

Yeah, sure, had nothing to do with the game being notoriously glitchy. With many broken quests that couldn't be completed. My first playthrough I got about half way through when a critical mission NPC just never showed up and I had to start completely over. I remember forums for that game there. They were bloated with people having problems. Many of them technical too, the game had skipping/pausing issues even on PCs that far exceeded the requirements.

Also as for the difficulty, not everyone is fine with hard for the sake of hard. Difficulty has to be finely tuned. You could stand on top of a fence 2 inches wide - in the middle of a pitch black night - and a badguy could toss a grenade 70ft and make it land on the fence you were standing on to blow you up. They could also full auto spray crappy guns from very far away and hit you perfectly.. The worst was the guys with shotguns sniping you from vast distances with buckshot. That's just cheating AI that doesn't have to follow the same exaggerated recoil and accuracy mechanics as you. That's not an appropriate way to design difficulty.

The controls were cumbersome as well. When you have to hold TWO DIFFERENT crouch keys simultaneously, another for your scope/ironsights, and then click your fire button you have a design problem.

Once it was patched a bit, and also some fan made patches/fixes were made - I actually enjoyed the game and it's sequels quite a bit.

I hate it when people completely leave out such important facts when they make some sweeping generalized BS statements like this.
