I'm going to step forward here and assume you've downloaded all the latest patches?
[I haven't since I refuse to play censored games, and refuse to pay $100 (STILL!!!!!!) for it, so I'm running a pirated version, which means no patches for me]. I'm going to assume they haven't removed the VRAM counter(Currently Used VRAM/Total VRAM, which colour changes depending on how close to the max you get). Post that.
Specs of your PC would be nice.
Turn everything right down low, and run a benchmark, post back the FPS (even if it does do graphical errors).
Bring me back those 3 things, in a quote, and I'll see if I can think of anything.
By which, I mean of course, quote me, and after the quote, say them.
So I get the fancy dancy system message, because I'll be blown if I'm going to check back here manually.

You should'nt have got it for PC. The PS3 version sucks ass all the way. 360 FTW!
Give me evidence to back up ur statement, u piece of shit Xbox fanboy. =)
First of all im not a fanboy. I have a pc,360 and ps3. Im just saying that the sixaxis is once again useless and the shoulder buttons are shit. The xbox version is the best because of no stupid controls and exclusive dlc. Is that enough evidence for you?
How could u bring Sixaxis into it, u dont even use Sixaxis in GTA4, the shoulder buttons have no problems and the controls are better on the PS3, so dont chat shit and as for the DLC, no big loss, it is only a matter of time before the PS3 goes beyond everything in the console market, so MS can just waste money trying to secure exclusive DLC.
I know he said it first, but which controls are better are simply a matter of opinion. I myself hate the new PS3 controller, and would much rather use the PS2 one, but it's still better than the old xBox controller, boy I hated that thing.
Personally, I think the PC's controls are better, but that's just because I hate using console controllers to play games.

I'd like to know what you think the PS3 is going to kill the 360 with(well sort of, since I'm really quite frankly mutual in the area).

right so i i have installed gta4 on my pc only to find its telling me my system isnt strong enough its gotten rid of the ingame hud and menus and is not showing the sky and random black blotches show up.

now i know my system is not weak it runs fallout 3 in a better way than the 360 and ps3 does, i can even have a mob of 100's of enemys without problems at the highest setting.and really fallout 3 has better graphics than gta 4

what im trying to say really is WTF is going on and is there anyway i can fix this?
But ther problems you are experiencing it might be some hardware problem or driver problem ?
i tried some familiar where i couldnt see the ground and only thing i could see was cars and m self :p anything else was transparent, but a restart worked that out. but try and update drivers and post your specs :) would be useful ^^

Me and 3 other of my friends got GTA 4 for PC :) runs perfect on highest setting ;D tho my pc plays in medium at the moment (i played the game in high GFX settings but a patch somehow screwed it and now im running in Medium, also the game runs better on the STEAM version than with DVD in drive, i know from personal experience)

Also people remember to update your drivers etc. and patch the game... if you whine over GTA 4 not working proberly and you're on the pirated version i dont give a ****, your own problem then...

My system...
CPU Type: DualCore Intel Xeon 3070, 2.4 GHz (clocked to 3.0 GHz)
Motherboard:Asus Commando
RAM: Corsair XMS2 DHX
CM2X2048-6400C4DHX 2x2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM
Soundcard: Creative SB X-Fi
XtremeMusic/Platinum Sound Card
Graphicscard: NVIDIA GeForce XFX GTX 260 XXX (OC edition) (896 MB )
OS: Windows XP SP3
Moniter: Hanns-G 22" inch (5 ms) 60Hz - Running GTA 4 in max resolution of 1680x1050 what my monitor allows...

and my friends got even better CPU's than me :p Intel QuadCore 9550, adn thier graphic's card vary atlittle from mine, from a GTX 285 down to a ATI 3850 - they play it on high settings with no problems at all... one of them with the GTX 285 got a 24" inch widescreen running the game in 1920x1080 and still it runs perfect :p (i hate him for having an insane rig...)

so i dont know why you're saying GTA 4 sucks and what else... just get a proper rig, i know that GTA 4 was ported but im running the game like a charm ;)
and stop saying GTA 4 is ugly just because you cant run it in high settings... because the Graphic in GTA 4 on PC owns PS3/X360 ;) ive seen it.

Thats what i mean THERE IS NO USE OF SIXAXIS. Meaning that it is useless. Its one of the main features in the PS3 but hardly any games use it to its potential.

The GTA4 port, to my understanding, is a very bad port to the PC. They hardly did any optimizing for it run well on any gaming computer, and well, you can have the best damn computer out there, but if it isn't optimized to run properly, it ain't going to.
Works fine for me. I think you're thinking of Saint's Row 2

Might I suggest you try and search on the GTA forums? Or google "GTA IV graphics errors" or similar.

This isn't really a technical support forum.

Search the internet for GTA4 PC Graphics Tweaks, There are instructions on how to remove the Memory and Graphics card Memory Cap usage in the games graphics engine. something along the lines of -nomemrestrict and something similar for the graphics card memory. I had similar problems when i first ran GTA4:pC but once i tweaked with the graphics settings and removed Memory caps, it ran fine, wasnt the best looking, but i ran smooth non the least

I couldn't run GTA IV after buying it from Steam either (my fault as I don't have a dual core, only a poor 1.8ghz athlon sempron). Only shelled out as it was on weekend deal and was cheap.

I found using the benchmark I was getting almost ONE fps with every setting on 'off' or minimum.

Then the patch came in March, and I found I could play it, only 10-15 fps, but I've managed to push my settings up too without affecting the frame rate.

Now, I'm agreeing, its a damned shoddy port, and Rockstar shouldn't leave the support of their games to the modding community. Also when I read, 'We spent $200,000 on copy protection for GTA IV, so bring it on pirates' I just thought, oh for fucks sake, that'll be on pirate bay in a week then, as a better, unlocked version.

They really should have spent that $199,990 on optimising the game for play on multiple PCs, and spent $10 printing CD key labels, as I feel any more copy protection than that is a waste of time.

The news of the terrible port damaged the sales of that game far more than any piracy issues, I'm sure, but I'm not trying to turn this into another piracy thread, just that I wish they'd spent a bit more on making the damn game playable to its customers.

I sense that if I had a 360 emulator, it might run the game smoother than thru the PC port of the game, and that says they didn't care.

I would however say, that some PCs still struggle to run it despite being way over the recommended, which is bad, and some pitifully underpowered ones can run it since the march patch.

Lastly, the PS3 and XBOX 360 version are so damned similar as to be the same, can we just stop that discussion now? I'll agree that you may prefer to use a 360 or ps3 controller, but that's about the only relevant difference (DLC not being counted).

IMO, GTA 4 looks much better.

Anyway, you're best chance of a fix would be support forums.
GTA 4 looks better than... GTA 4?

But yeah, I can understand wanting the PC version (mods+GTA=awesome), but both the 360 and PS3 are much better.
Yeah but it doesn't look as good as gta 4

It all comes down to one thing

can YOUR computer run Crysis on full settings without any slowdown ?
If so then it's the game for being on a PC

If not then upgrade you computer

If you can play Fallout 3 at max graphics, I'd say it's a problem with your disc. Maybe it didn't install properly?

My guess is because of the DLC.
Other than that, there's no difference. I have it for the 360 and haven't downloaded the Lost and Damned. And not sure if I want to.
The GTA4 DLC is overrated and aint a big loss to the PS3.
My thought's exactly

GTA4 for PC sucks. It can't use the processing power completely. There may be some mods or a patches that could help fix your problem. If you can return the game, and get it on a different platform, then that would be your best choice.
It actually ran very well on highest on my mediocre-end pc

(Bought it stock, added HD4870 and 2 gig ram)

To OP: You might as well just uninstall. Make sure everything is cleared, and then fully reinstall.
That usually fixes things for me.

The PC version suffers the same problems as the PC version of Far Cry2.

It just doesn't work.

The console versions work fine but for some reason no-one bug tests PC games anymore. Send it back, even if theplace you bought it from 'doesn't' refund pc games you will get your money back if you are persistent.

Sucks for you having a PC. At least with a console we dont have to constantly upgrade parts of our console at an expensive price.

I'm not sure what specs Fallout 3 needs, but I ran GTA4 well at the minimum requirements.
I have a single core AMD Athlon 64 3500+, a GeForce 8500 and 2 Gb of RAM. Try turning off some of the RAM users by ctrl+alt+deleting over in the processes tab. I don't know if they released a patch, but I think I read something about a patch being released on Steam.
