Deadline NY is reporting that Gorden-Levitt is currently in talks to join the cast in an unspecified role before the film begins production this spring. This announcement has once again fueled fan speculation as to his possible role, with everyone from Hugo Strange to Deadshot being suggested.

There were also some words tossed around about the script.

When asked how the script could possibly top 'The Dark Knight', Nolan's longtime cinematographer Wally Pfister had this to say:

"I asked the same question. I read the script 2 weeks ago, and he?s done it. Plain and simple - he?s done it. It?s a phenomenal script. He?s still in the process of cutting it back because it?s a very long script right now, but it?s really phenomenal. And he actually had me go back and wanted me to watch, in IMAX, 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight' again. When I watched those I had read the script for The Dark Knight Rises and was like, ?dude, it is a perfect trilogy.?"

So, opinions?

I think that Gordon-Levitt is a great actor, so adding him to the movie would be nice.

Bah, stop hyping it up for me Wally Pfister. I'm already eager enough as it is.

there have been rumors about Gordon-Levitt being cast in the new Batman movie for at least 6 months now. i'll believe it when i see him in the trailers or the movie itself.

Come on, bring in mr Freeze and Poison Ivy! Or Superman (they're in the same continuity - sort of). Or a gritty Robin subplot, but with him wearing the same red tunic with green tights.

This is good news, good news indeed.

I really hate all this drip feeding. I don't mind it when the release is close enough but they haven't even started production yet! 2012 is too damn far away!

Let's wait and see...
So psyched for this though. First sequel to anything I genuinely want to see at the cinema.

Where the hell did this guy come from? He went from nothing to superstar after (500) Days of Summer. I know he did that TV show I didn't watch but what else?

Anyway, I'm skeptical that Rises will best Knight but I'm very eager nonetheless. I just can't wait to be king! for this movie.

Hopefully Nolan will put him to better use than in Inception, where his sole character trait was telling the audience about Leonardo DiCaprio's character.
He was the ying to DiCaprio's yang in that film dude. Though I see your point, he doesn't get any character development throughout the film but his role was important within the story.

I'm really hoping that he plays Robin in this film. I know Nolan and Bale have both strongly opposed using him in the past but given that Ledger (and by extension, The Joker) is dead I don't see how any other character is going to influence a Batman film with as much impact as the Joker did...

I'm confidant that Nolan's Bane will put Batman through his paces and really drag him down (and hopefully break his back). But it'd sure be nice to see Robin pull him back out of his dark descent...

The more I think about it, the more likely we've all gotten a bit ahead of ourselves. Think about it, often the last people to be cast are for the biggest roles.

JGL could well be the Riddler in a similar capacity to Joker in TDK, present throughout and the main villain. While Bane may only be a minor villain in the similar manner to Lau in TDK or Falcone in Begins; significant villains, yes, but out of the game before the half way mark. As for Selina Kyle? Harvey Dent. Present throughout and developed well but only actually turning into the villain we're expecting in the last act. Even Ra's in Begins only really emerged as THE villain in the last 40 minutes.

Either way, the fact remains; this is awesome news and we all have a painfully long wait ahead of us. :)

Nolan said there won't be a Riddler in DKR.

Could also mean Deathstroke appears in TDKR as well(unlikely but possible!)
Could be, but I agree, it is unlikely. I think the problem with Black Mask and Deathstroke is that they are rather unknown compared to the main villains like Joker, Freeze, Ivy, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, Scarecrow and maybe Bane and Clayface. Then again, we can rule them out, because they have either been done/announced or are too "supernatural".
So I think we are in for a big (and hopefully satisfying) surprise.
