Too bad. You against having the grass crest shield strapped to your back too? Otherwise you'll probably need a lot of endurance, fast. Two-handers eat up a shit load of stamina.
Unfortunately, the rules of a Guts run include not using shields as well.
Can't even have one on your back, eh? Well, you'll probably have to get crazy endurance then. The good news is that you can go for heavy armor then. I wore Havel's in my build, but somebody else here may be able to recommend something better suited. I'm honestly not that much of a Dark Souls expert, it just so happens that my last playthrough was a two handed build (it was very, very fun), and I'm definitely not at all familliar with Guts. Apparently Artorias is supposed to be a bit of an homage to him, so you could go for his armor, though it will be a long time until you get it.
Most melee builds I know of opt for the 40 endurance required for maximum stamina, anyways. And there's always those stamina-recovery consumables.

Well, yeah... It would be easier with the mask and shield though. As for the grass, is there a even a merchant that sells large amounts of that? I don't remember getting that much of it on my playthrough.

Isn't there a ring that gives stamina recovery too? I didn't use it because I needed havel's ring and ring of favor and protection for my build, but I swear there was one.

To answer the questions asked in some of the posts: no, you can't manually aim a crossbow, the way you can a bow. It's the most incredibly backwards mechanic I can think of, and it makes the "sniper crossbow" the most tragically ironic weapon in RPGdom.

On topic, that run sounds interesting. I'd agree with everyone else, the Drake Sword is more novelty than anything. Go with a sword that actually scales.

There are two merchants that I know of that sell the grass. One in sen's fortress and another outside the area where you fight artorias. The Cloranthy ring from the great hollow recovers stamina. The greatsword seems to look the most like Gutz weapon.

Ah, well that makes sense then. I killed those two. They're kinda jerks.

You don't need the drake sword.

Still, don't know why you'd want to. It's kind of shitty and not really a "Guts"-y weapon. I'd go for the Greatsword you get with the rest of the Black Iron set but whatevs.
Three things

1. How the fuck is the Greatsword NOT a Guts-y weapon? It is one of the ULTRA greatswords, you know like the weapon that Guts uses in the manga? If anything it's the perfect weapon for a Guts build.

2. How is it shitty? It has the some of the best scaling in the game and is also one of the two fastest Ultragreatswords. You just need enough strength to wield it.

3. You can get it earlier than that. From the Crestfallen Merchant at Sen's.

EDIT: Lovely Mixture used reading comprehension....it wasn't very effective.

He was calling the drake sword non-gutsy and shitty. Your third point is right though.

I understand the creepy guy in the mask, but the crestfallen merchant was just well...crestfallen. To each their own I guess. Anyways, I guess a combination of the black iron armor and the armor of artorias could be used to look like gutz. using haval's ring and the cloranthy ring(or ring of favor, and just pop herbs) in conjunction with the greatsword, there could be a decent mid rolling character.

There's no vendor that I know of, but one can pretty easily farm that grass stuff in the darkroot garden with some patience. I don't usually bother with that since I don't restrict my gear usage like the OP, but that seems like a nearly vital task for him.

As for the ring, it does in fact exist. You get it from making a near-suicidal jump in the great hollow, before getting to ash lake.

HELL YEAH!!!

OT: You could try and get some info on Dark Souls Wiki to find the most similar looking sword. The Black Knight Sword comes pretty close, but you only wield that with one hand. One of the best fucking swords in the game though. Or the Man-Serpent Greatsword.

Hmmm, a Guts playthrough... Interesting. I myself wouldn't mind going through a la Skullknight. I seem to remember there being a skeletal like armour set somewhere in Dark Souls. Though it will be hard to find a sword in there that can cut through space and time.

He's not talking about the Zweihander, he's talking about the Drake Sword which is not a Greatsword and is pretty shitty.
