If they actually know you personally and you are their friends, it would be tough to stop them from socially engineering their way into your accounts. The only way you can really stop that is to delete the accounts and create new ones that they don't know about.
This, or maybe, if you DO know them irl, beat the crap out of them?
I know I would.
could do so, i am a trained security guard, but that too is illigal much like hacking.

Yeah, I was trying to go for the non-violent solutions here :p

Guessing someones password is easy, look at their common information, like where they live, or what they like, and take guesses from there.

It's easier if you don't know the person, though.

If it comes down to it, just threaten them with that fact.
serious? hacking's a crime? since when is the pursuit of knowledge a crime? so when i take apart my stereo to try to put a better antenna on it, i'm committing a crime?

or using 3rd party firmware on my router for more features / better security, i'm committing a crime?

better alert the authorities...

As for the topic @ hand... change your password regularly... somethign that's easy for you to remember and hard for others to guess...

example:
take the first letter of each word of a song... "Mary had a little lamb..." would be: Mh@llwfwwa5 (using an '@' for 'a', and a '5' for 's')...

We tell all of our clients to make their pass at least 8 characters, w/ at least 1 upper, 1 lowercase, 1 special character, and 1 number.... be creative...

Hi there, my situation is simple, i have a few of those edgy new myspace / facebook pages and i have two programer friends who keep hacking them and changing crap on my pages.

can anyone help me either get back at them, teach me how to get back at them or tell me how to stop them hacking my accounts.

thanks for your time.
Unless your friends are international level hackers to actually hack into mysspace/facebook the probabilities are that your pc is compromised, with a trojan or a key logger, do you use a public computer? do they have access to your computer?

scan the shit out of it and dont let them touch it again.

i dont know whats the best option to scan a computer tough

also use a more secure OS in case youre using XP.

I think we're mixing our definitions here a bit. I think he's referring to hacking as in "accessing secure and private information without the consent of the owner" rather than the proper HCI definition "creating a workaround to suit the user's needs." And yes, accessing private information for malicious purposes is illegal.

*sigh*

They aren't hacking, they are using a program to do it. That isn't hacking, the person who made the program, sure call that hacking. But I highly doubt they did. I forget what people call it... But it isn't hacking. In other news:

Viva la report system?

kick crap out of them, then threaten them with sander to crotch.when they concede,go out for donuts, everybody happy.

serious note:I'd just do the most serious thing you can justify by the fact that they are hacking you repeatedly and refuse to stop.

I suggest the top of my post for that

My guess is that they have a key logger on your computer so if you don't have the expertise to find and stop it then have an expert look at your computer and while it's in the shop go to a public computer and change all the passwords to stymie further attempts to invade your privacy. Before you get you computer back get a firmware firewall, I use a D-link Secure-spot DSD 150, and update the firmware on the other equipment (router, modem, etc.)you have after the computer gets back. If your "friends" still insist on messing with the sites you may need new friends.

this is the first thing that i thought. your friends know your password, probly cause you make it easy to guess or you were stupid enough to tell them what it was at one point.

so my suggestion is to change your password to something harder to guess that includes numbers, capital letters and special characters

something like this

3Sc@p15T

don't use that but something similar and try to use something they wouldn't easily guess that you would use

The word is "cracking" or "cracked".

you are about the only other person, besides me, on here that would correct it and say it is cracking. which is true this is NOT hacking, it's cracking

Or even worse; "secret questions." Those things are retardedly easy to guess if you actually know the person.

I would consider that more to be 'modding' than 'hacking', though I could be wrong XD

On topic, they sound like immature idiots.

I suggest a punch to the face, failing that go with the new password option. Remember non-dictionary words and try to include numbers.

yes, i understand the difference... i just get a little perturbed when people use the term hacking for cracking, etc... what people are assuming he wants to do is crack somebody else's account, not hack it...

i understand... but when people use the wrong term, it gives all hackers a bad name. I'm merely just trying to enlighten people as to the difference... hopefully somebody will read this and learn something that they didn't know. This is all i can hope for, i suppose...
