Due to 2 recent threads, one about half life 1 and the other about what game have you given up on, I've decided to ask you guys, what's your personal strategy to defeating the striders at the end of HL2 EP2? I really want to beat it for myself.

Just take out the Hunters first, if you don't their guns will just destroy your bomb every time.

Perseverance. And saving every time I manage to kill one flawlessly.

Actually I do have a decent piece of advice, best way to kill the little things (hunters? It's been a while) is with rockets or running them over.

I did that too. I swear the last part of the game is the least fun than the rest of it... and I love Valve with a passion.

Use the car to run over the hunters, then use the magnussums to blow up the striders.

Really? I love that part. Especially when things go wrong and you start feeling the pressure of whether you'll make it or not.

Anyways, like the people said: get rid of the hunters and then use your gravgun to stick the striders with a Magnusson Device. Shoot the device and you've got one less strider to worry about.

Ignore the hunters and throw the magnusson device from miles away, you have to be damn accurate but it makes it very easy. It took a while but I managed to get the achievement for not letting them destroy any building.

Take out the Hunters with those energy balls you get for the plasma rifle (I think thats the right gun, I haven't played it in ages) - I'm fairly sure its a one shot kill. Then use the Magnussen Device on the Striders and problem solved. Don't worry too much about the surrounding buildings getting trashed (unless your after the achievement), just get a M.D., drive around and use your radar until you find a strider and take it out.

Tip: Your not going to get this first, second, or even third time. Just keep persavering. It takes a lot of practice to get it right.

Like everyones said, run over the hunters, then deal with the striders. You won't save every building, garanteed. Just keep going at it.

Me too, the last Strider I killed was literally just about to blow up the base - I felt an immense sense of relief when I found that that was the last one. It's an ace ending.

The bit where the hut is demolished by a singularity cannon is the most orgasmically destructive thing in any video game I have ever seen thus far.

Walkthrough : Hunter + Cars Front Bumper = Hunter death scream
Strider + Magnisson = Bigass explosion and Dead Strider , incase enough people havent said it already

I have heard of many who have trouble completing this final portion of the game. I believe the problem lies in the fact that this sequence does not scale very well with the different difficulties. The striders are not going to move any slower if you choose to play on easy as opposed to hard.

As for a tip for completing it, take full advantage of the car to run over some hunters. Also, try to anticipate where the striders are going to be coming from and move to that position as quick as possible upon taking out a strider.

It helps to try and lead the hunters to groups of rebels. They'll help with fighting, and also if you camp out near one of the buildings, you'll get a long period of time where you have a large amount of ammo. Once one building is dry move onto another one.

Secondary thing, there are a couple of the buildings that the striders destroy with their big laser thing, if you can save one of these buildings it would help greatly.

Other than that I'd go with the hit-run tactics for the hunters, I haven't tried it myself but seems feasible.

That is the best way.

The first time i did it, my car got stuck on a rock and I had to do that whole section on foot.

I just drove over the hunters.. until a strider blew up the mill with their dimensional cannon, and my car got shot up in a tree.. And stayed there.
From then on out, I had to noclip, and just pump loads of lead into the final wave.
