Valve sux at updating games.

Take TF2 as an example, it's been out for almost 1 and 1/2 year and three weaponpacks, THREE weaponpacks has been released.

FYI
Each containing three weapons for one specific class, as of date it's pyro, medic and heavy.

I can't imagine it'd take 6 month of programming to develop three new weapons.
Srsly valve, you can't just sit in your chairs drinking coke and watch youtube all day, WORK!
Really, now? And what backwards-ass parallel universe do you live in again where this is concrete fact?

Except for the consoles, in which Valve has zero control over, Valve has one of the best track records in the entire industry in regard to updating games, both with regular patches and bug fixes along with free content. By all rights Valve doesn't even have to keep making new content for the game now that you've already bought it, so because your essentially getting more stuff for free you have nothing to complain about.

That's a hell of a track record when you compare to other companies who just dump the game after its released and forget about it. I'll use Cod4 as an example; they made it, released a three-map pack (1 of which was straight from campaign, another of which was a map from the original, just thematically changed), and that's it.\
Saying its bad that one of the maps is from the campaign is not a valid point, as every shipped map in the game is based of a campaign level
Fair enough. My point was just that the few other companies that do any form of added content tend to not make it unique, as Valve does.

I agree with that, Valve does usually release quality DLC.

I only have two things to say.

1.Its Valve. They're second only to 3D realms in the "taking for fucking ever" contest.

2.You went to a summer camp for GarryMod!?!

VALVE suck at updating games? Thats a new one...
Your really havn't seen TF2 on the xbox have you?

Why on earth would you play TF2 on the xbox? Thats just a bad idea all around.

As for Valve, I agree with the general opinion. Yea, Valve takes a long time to make games, but that's because they do so much work perfecting them.

As for HL2 and TF2, Valve hasn't been working as much on them lately because they were primarily concerned with getting Left 4 Dead out the door and fixing it's bugs. I believe I read that in an interview somewhere but for the life of me I can't remember exactly where.

1. But they just can't compare to DNF. PA was saying it would never come out in the 90s. That's just sad.

2. Pretty sweet, huh?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Valve.

They'll release it, eventually. And it will be good. In a few years.

Hopefully, they will have the completed TF2 weapon packs by then.

It's because they were working on Left 4 Dead.

As long as they don't disappoint, I can wait.

Personally, I'm fearing they won't properly explain the g-man. I'll be pissed if they pull a stunt like that.
We must be careful what we wish for, a little mystery never hurt anyone, especially if the alternative is finding out that the G-man *gasp* is made entirely of midichlorians! :p

They could leave him largely unexplained and I wouldn't mind, I really hope they don't pull a "He's Gordon from the future!" trip. :)

It's true that the wait for the episodes has been slow and annoying, but oh well, gives time for other games to take the spotlight. :)

Valve just likes taking their time to make sure the game is as good as it can be when it is released. Team fortress 2, for example, was originally announced in 1999 (or something like that). The game will be released when it is ready. I personally prefer long waits to crappy game play, but that's just me.

As much as I loved the orange box, I'm not looking forward to ep3 as I expect it will cost $40, be one hour long with no replayablity and everyone will talk about how great it is because of some catch phrase or song.

I don't get how people can defend the amount of time between episodes considering how little content that's in them. They don't have to make a new engine, or models or textures just new maps, story and voiceovers. I've seen mod groups put out 10+ hours of content within the first week of the release of a new game

I know they don't have to release anything, just that after a cliffhanger ending I can only wait so long before I just don't care anymore, especially sense they will end it on another cliffhanger just to milk the franchise more

My theory is that they'll drop episode three, take what they've done so far, and begin working on half life 3.

I remember how episode 1 pissed the living hell out of me. It was like 3 years in development, and it ended up being a game that you could beat without a gun, and under 4 hours. Episode 2 was significantly longer and more difficult, so that was good. If you watched the ZP review, then Yahtzee clearly points out how this episode thing needs to tackle: Quick, Cheap, and frequent releasing. Obviously they only tackled 2 of those things, which is disappointing. But if they are able to make it fun and intresting, it will be worth the wait.

Every one, please stop whining. Would you prefer a new, mediocre game every year, or a new, great game every 2-3 years?
Problem is that the Episodes haven't been that great. They've been inda bland, not doing anything really new or memorable, just saying "Hey, you know that game you loved? Well, here's 3 more hours of the exact same thing all over again." And they expect us to treat that like Half Life 3.
You're entitled to your opinion, and I certainly agree on Episode 1, but Episode 2 was great, especially the finale.

The reason I don't like the ending of Number 2 is because I know they will inevitably trot out the Vortigaunts again to work some Deus Ex Machina and bring Eli back, just like they brought Alyx back.
Wouldn't put it past them, except
Alyx only got stabbed in the chest, seemingly in nonvital spots. Eli got his fucking brain sucked out. No amount of Deus Ex Machina will bring him back.

Just to be on the safe side.

Anyway I think 2010 is going to be the next time we adventure with Mr Freeman.

Alternatively, they could just not have weapon packs like every other damn game on the market. Or release them as a costly side-on like the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack or the Spore 'Creepy and Cute' pack.

Valve updates rigorously, and every one make the games they make even more awesome than before.

On-topic, I say they take their time. You can't rush perfection, and they have a tiny population in comparison to most other mainstream game devs.

Exactly, you've paid for the game, Valve won't get anymore money out of you for TF2 by releasing these for free, but they are anyway and thats why we appreciate them and their work so much more than companys like EA or 3D Realms (if you can call them a company these days) these character updates and improvements are a blessing that make an already great game even better.

I think they're working on more than just Ep. 3. Keep in mind that Ep. 2 came out as part of a bundle of games, three of which were new, and one of those took around a decade to make.

Maybe we're also in store for a Portal sequel as well, since the connection between Aperture Science and Black Mesa was drawn in Ep. 2 and Portal.
