Okay, so a friend of mine gave me this link:

It has an interesting screen shot on it. What do you think? Is it legitimate or another fan-made cock-up? If it isn't real, then damn. But if it is; 2010? 2 more years?

danno, looks fairly legit, but maybe not, the health thing look suspicious, also I'd think if anything it would be hl2 ep3 shots we'd be seeing.

If you look down the bottom-right corner there's Valve's logo. So that must mean it's for real, right? I really just wanted to show you this. I think it is a real one, and if it is I'm guessing they spent a lot of time souping up the engine - it looks brilliant.

I dunno... my money is on a fan mock-up. Not that it doesn't look nice, but we still have HL2: Episode 3 to look forward to (which they are souping up the engine for), and so I don't think Valve would be pushing HL3 right now. Plus, they usually make their announcements through proper commercial channels, such as announcing HL2 in PC Gamer.

And kbag08 is right; why would they suddenly make the crowbar blue?

Anyone can do that. I think it's a fake for multiple reasons. Some of those being that everything is different, like the health, energy/shield level, crowbar, and logo. Also, Episode 3 isn't out yet, and after that there could be a Episode 4, but I think they scrapped that. If that is City 17 or another, although it doesn't looked worn down enough, Valve said you wouldn't be going back to that, although I think he was referring to the Episodes. Also why would they use the same setting for two of their games, and it looks weird and off.

Shouldn't the crowbar be farther to the right, as to not block your view? It is in all the others.

I did hear that they weren't going to bother with Episode 3 because they decided to put so much stuff into it, they were better off packaging it as Half-Life 3 and stuffing it with as much as possible.

As for the blue crowbar; I think the only reason they'd change the colour so suddenly is just to see what people make up on the internet. As for my theory, I'd say he lost the red one somewhere - preferably in the gullet of some monstrous new combine-creature in a high-octane boss-battle.

No, Gabe Newall said that The Episodes were basically Half-Life 3, and you could call then that, not that they were getting rid of Ep:3, and he said that before Ep:2 came out. Valve isn't the type of company to change something just see what the internet thinks, and they would announce it in proper channels.

I doubt that it is City 17. What with the portal and the missile and all of that jazz, it's doubtful that City 17 would be anything else but a pile of rubble. The graphic engine has obviously been updated, and the crowbar changed, it's possible that Valve have revamped Gordon's suit as well, which may explain the new health-metres.

I don't think its legit at all. Not only for the 'paper channels' excuse, but also for a variety of other reasons: 2010!? Are you barmy!? I don't expect Episode Three by then! And although that city looks pretty sweet; ain't everywhere been devastated by the Combine?

All you have to do is look closely at the background to notice it's the crowbar and such was pasted onto it.

Also look at the logo, the 3 is in the wrong place.

what's that writing. on the left. on the wall i can't make it out. Anyway i don't think it's real. For one Gordon's crowbar is iconic, why would they change it like that, it doesn't make sense. And the entire thing just feels off. can't really put my finger on it.

Wow. Please do not tell me you went looking for that. Anyway, it seems I was wrong and it's fake. I'd hate to tell my friend though, he's ecstatic over the prospect of another Half-Life game within the next 2 years.

Besides all that, was no one tipped off by the fact that the lettering was Roman, not Cyrillic?

well, that proves that it's a fake, I was going to say that the crowbar was a real one edited in to the image but I got beaten to it.
