Yeah. I was all like 'whoaa' but then I was like 'hey, hang on, Microsoft would never' but then I was like 'Hey, I trust The Escapist' and then I was like 'yeah but no but yeah but no but it can't be truez!'

Then I clicked on it. Ho hum. But, I would imagine that this will be one of the higher-viewed news stories. Respect, Funk, respect.

The best part about the whole thing (other than getting to watch Halo Legends in HD, of course) is going to be watching the die-hard Sony and Microsoft fanboys try to process the information without admitting that Halo is actually pretty cool and that Blu-Ray is an impressive technological format, respectively. Maybe their heads will explode. We can only hope, right?

This sounds great! In fact, if I could think of the perfect personalised torture for me, Halo Legends is it. So why should I care for it in HD, so I can watch Master Chief's visor in better definition? Woop-de-fucking-doo.

Somewhat unrelated: Microsoft should port Halo (teh f1rst won) to the PS3...

I'm serious.​

They ported the flagship product over to the PC while the original XBOX was in production, if for no other reason than to get PC gamers to buy an XBOX and Halo 2. Why not do the same thing for the PS3?

In fact, the PS1 emulator on the PS3 most likely has a good deal of code from the Virtual Game Station (an incredibly efficient Play Station One emulator) made by ...(drum roll)... Eric Traut of Microsoft, and I don't think Microsoft has received a dime in royalties. Eric, btw, is also responsible for Hyper-V, the free Virtual PC, and had a huge hand in the Windows 7 kernel.

But the biggest thing he should be known for, aside from the Virtual Game Station and the pivotal court case surrounding it, is backwards compatibility on the 360. Running x86 code on an in-order risc-like PPC core is no small feat.

Sony OWES Microsoft, if for no other reason than the simultaneous multi-threading and the rich set of SIMD instructions in the PowerPC core that the toshiba/sony + ibm team did not need or want. Making games on the CELL processor, as difficult as it is, would have been much more difficult without those features.

Well, I've managed to get way off track. So how would you guys feel if Microsoft brought Halo and Playstion 2 emulation to the PS3?

I definitely did a double take on that headline, way to get peoples attention.

I only ever played the campaign of the Halo trilogy and found it average. I mean, I had fun, but I probably won't be playing through them again. I'll probably check out the anime for grins.

Meh oh well, I don't see this as a big deal. Blu-Ray is just a movie format. Even if Sony do own it or something, it's not that major. I mean would we be that surprised if we saw some Sony owned movie on the Live movie rental service?

I mean yes there was a point where PS3 was the primary Blu-Ray player of the market as it was the cheapest way to get one, but now that's changed.
