Except for the fact that the fun now shoots portals. Was it able to do that in the base game? I haven't played reach so if this isn't modding then it must do that in the original game right?Irridium said:I guess it is to some people. But to me mod-tools let you add new models/textures/ect to the game, on top of changing the base game. Halo's Forge basically lets you place a bunch of items wherever you want.Canid117 said:A map editor is a type of mod tool.Irridium said:Its just a map editor. Mod tools allow you to create new skins, maps, ect. for games. Forge just lets you edit existing maps. Or in the case of Forge World(a level built specifically for Forge mode in Halo Reach), allows you to make maps out of miscellaneous items.Canid117 said:Maybe you should explain why forge doesn't count as using mod tools? Seems pretty similar to me.Irridium said:He didn't use mod tools, and isn't really a modder. He's a forger, and used Reach's Forge mode to make this. Should probably fix that.
It was actually once possible to mod Halo 2, but that involved also modding the xbox. And Bungie didn't even mind at first. Then people started using those mods to cheat in matchmaking, so they and Microsoft had to start banning people for mods.
Teleporters are built into the game, and can be made to appear at different times. He is probably shooting the wall at the same time the teleporter appears.Canid117 said:Except for the fact that the fun now shoots portals. Was it able to do that in the base game? Can you prove that or are you just pulling it out of your ass?hazard99 said:Teleporters are built into the game, and can be made to appear at different times. Well... yes I am assuming that, but it seems more likely than him modding the game like that. Sometimes there is a lag between his shot collisions and Portals appearing.Canid117 said:Can you prove that or are you just pulling it out of your ass?hazard99 said:Teleporters are built into the game, and can be made to appear at different times. They're just the usual Halo teleporters and the red/blue effect is provided by one-way energy barriers which are blue when you can enter them and red when you cannot. You can see the teleporter resting on top of the barrier on his blue floor portal when he's flinging himself.Canid117 said:Except for the fact that the fun now shoots portals. It looks to me like he phased the teleporters into the walls and covered them with energy barriers before switching the phasing settings on them back to standard so when the wall is struck by the concussion grenade the teleporter tries to de-phase itself but is blocked by the barrier so remains within the wall but appears to have been placed by the gun.hazard99 said:Well... yes I am assuming that, but it seems more likely than him modding the game like that. Yes its true. With Forge, you can place an item, and have it spawn at certain points during a game, so it won't spawn at the start.Canid117 said:Can you prove that or are you just pulling it out of your ass?hazard99 said:Teleporters are built into the game, and can be made to appear at different times. I'm not asking to prove if he can place items at certain points I am asking if Hazard actually knows if that is what he is doing.Irridium said:Yes its true. Makes for some interesting game modes if used correctly.
Mysten also suggested another way he could have done this.
I was thinking about something like this earlier where say, a passenger could make a portal on a building's wall and another one on the roof (if it's like a house or otherwise has a slanting roof) so you can effectively ramp yourself off a building without being on top of it, or better yet, if you can do it with bikes and ruin someone's stunt by placing a portal in the path of his vehcle and make him come hurtling out of a wall somewhere into a hazard or something that will smear him across a surface.darkbshadow said:See Everything is better with Portals. that just made the halo franchise that much better... Still waiting for someone to put a Portal Gun in a shooter.... maybe with one where you could make portals big enough so you can drive cars through it.
Oh, my mistake. Well, for what its worth I downloaded the map and loaded it up in Forge. He did indeed set the portals to spawn at a set time after the game starts. And as for the "turret", there's a spawn point right above the "cake". Leading me to believe he just did this in a local, split-screen lobby.Canid117 said:I'm not asking to prove if he can place items at certain points I am asking if Hazard actually knows if that is what he is doing.
No, I mean the editor in the Halo games is called forge, hence forgerSaelune said:Modding. Its route is mod, for modifying. Forging is just a brand name for modifying (like band-aid for bandage). Hes a modder.Jabberwock xeno said:He's not a modder, he's a forger, you should probably change that.
Anyways, while what he did was, cool, it's not as cool as this:
And by that you mean Geoff and Jack will be found dead next week after they've strangled each other over a game of Halo/Portal Horse?roostuf said:very nice im sure roosterteeth will shit themselves with excitement.
