I liked the new characters but i thought the levels could have been a lot more interesting if the stealth wasn't crap and you weren't just having a long commute on foot everywhere.

I hated some of those characters. Buck and the other guys...are not "Halo" and are definitely not fun or funny. They're annoying as hell.
The gameplay was great, though. I'll give it that. I'd say that it was a good game, minus the dialogue.

I didn't finish it. I originally bought it for my little brother, but he didn't like it for whatever reason. I then started playing it and got bored of it really quickly and never played it since.
Just like Halo 1 and Halo 3, the only other Halo games I have played, I thought they were boring and lacklustre. That's just my taste talking, though so don't flame me. However, I do admit playing co-op campaign with my brother in Halo 3 and him "accidentally" killing me with the gravity hammer was pretty fun

Great atmosphere, interesting choice of story and characters, but I feel it didn't go far enough with it, and also didn't have enough story.
Point 1:
The whole point of the ODSTs is that they are ordinary humans, yet the controls for them were just the same as SPARTANs. You could wield turrets, take down a million bad guys alone, and generally run, jump and dodge just as well as a super soldier. If they had scaled down the abilities and focused on a team based shooter from the POV of a normal human amongst a squad of other normal humans, there's a new interpretation of the series.
Point 2: ODST takes me several hours to complete, yet it doesn't feel like it does. Take Reach vs ODST. I could finish both in about the same amount of time, but I would feel like I got more from Reach. This is because Reach is epic in every sense of the word. You go from a routine patrol to watching an entire world burn as you heroically fend off an ultimately undefeatable wave of enemy troops. Compare and contrast to ODST where you heroically potter around New Mombasa looking for the rest of your squad and occasionally play a flashback mission. The game only got truly epic for the grand finale, but for Reach the same level of excitment was reached by the time you were fighting your way towards a space shuttle to take off and defeat the Covenant among the stars.
Don't get me wrong, I love ODST and I still play it. But I have never been interested by multi-player, and the single campaign left a lot to be desired for me.

One of the better Halo Games, a good step in the right direction by not making a game centered around the original protagonist, it gave room for the developers to create a game they wanted instead of a game that the fans wanted (Which seem to be the only ones who really complain about it).
It's a great game. It's unclear if it did that much to innovate vs. the other Halo games, but regardless of innovation or the lack thereof it plays very well.
I loved it. Not only as a Die-Hard Halo fan, but that it took the series into a different combat atmosphere, although any concept of "Stealth" is crap just like any Halo game, but I still enjoyed the city exploring in the night time, and I thought the characters were good. They had memorable moments for me, but nothings perfect, and it certainly isn't
And I never bought it when it was new. mainly because I had no money back then. But I love the Mythic Disc with all Halo 3 maps, totally worth it for me. But others beg to differ, and that's all fine by me.

Thirded. While it wasn't a "HOLYSHITTHISISAWESOME!" game, it was still fairly good and I enjoyed it. Hell, if I could find one or two people who'd be willing to help me get the last couple achievements I don't have for ODST (it's only three firefight ones) I'd probably be willing to play it again.Ticonderoga117 said:
It's a very well designed game. Most of the hate it got on release is because Microsoft decided to charge full price for it when it was effectively an expansion pack. Nowadays, that's a non issue, so it's definitely worth a purchase if you don't despise everything halo.
I thought it was pretty great, giving some characters in the Halo universe with personality (Haven't played Reach) other than the books. The characters were rather fresh and not that cliche (as far as I remember), and I liked how each of their armor was different in some aspect to detail how each ODST had a separate purpose and chose to circumstance themselves that way.
I also liked the Rookie moments in the dark streets, as you were always alone and you seemed a lot weaker in comparison to normal Halo--making your actions seem a lot more awesome when you can only take three bullets but you can beat an alien taller than you to death after you just lost your final clip. The Visor thingy was a bit overrated, however, as it blinded you on the daytime stuff, and revealed your position during Rookie. Also, the SMG finally has a use. I liked that--a variable, mid-range assault rifle with low damage input, but still positive results.

It was pretty good. Firefight was awesome in ODST as well but it sucks in reach. Exploring new Mombosa was pretty fun as well.
I really like ODST.
It captures the atmosphere of what post-destruction New Mombasa would look like after the Covenant have been terrorizing it, it displays the skills and durability of the ODST (UNSC's Special Forces group of soldiers) perfectly, it shows that Halo has more depth in it's story than what the Spartans are doing, and most importantly, it has Nathan Fillion in it.
