How many people didn't know about this?

It's one of the many reasons to buy Reach.
Me and my friend are going to camp out for it even though we know there wont be a Q.

Ah good. Now we're thinking. :D

they are too easy, the regenerating health allows you to pop out take a few hits then go back in.
Argh...almost. No, I'm afraid that's subjective again. You might simply be a better joystick jockey than I, but I found heroic and legendery sufficently punishing.

Toss pots? It's a good job I'm up with my English colloquialisms, or I'd have to waste another post asking you to clarify. I'll agree with you though. I've never been one to defend Halo's narrative, though that's not why I enjoy it. There's nothing inherently wrong with a silent protagonist though. Fans of Half-Life and Zelda don't seem to be too bothered.

directly rips off half life. the flood take over bodies and use them to their own ends. just like the head crabs.
Is this a bad gameplay mechanic though? Even then, I'm not sure if you can really attribute that directly to Half-Life - parasitic monsters have featured in fiction for forever.

In the first game, 90% of the game consisted of killing a few low level enemies in the same fucking rooms trying to find the way out.
Curb the language good sir. We want to keep this civil. Hmm, I can't remember Halo CE too well, but 90% might be a bit of a hyperbole. I'm looking at Halopedia right now and only 50% of the levels seem to be indoors. You might have just been unlucky enough to have simply replayed The Library through nine times on your playthrough.

I'll grant your point on the enemies though, but yet again you exagerate. While there's not much variation in the foes you face, it's not exactly 90% (or even 50%) fighting the grunts.

even though this game was released well after half life and even the second at the same time as hl2, the facial animations look like the characters are moving their jaws while gritting their teeth, and have the same blank stare.
Granted. The cut-scene animation is rocky.

one realism gripe though for the second and third games. once your shield is down you take 1 or 2 hits and die. I wonder what the point of that armour is then?
I thought we moved past realism when we started shooting giant, pink spikes at zombie/aliens that looked like scrotums, but whatever.

The game isn't perfect. I know this. What I also know is that I find it extremely responsive, fun, and challenging in its well-supported multiplayer. You still can't argue that Halo is an objectively bad game.

Hey look, flamebait!

OT: Yeah sure, i'll get this for forgeworld alone. Everything else is just a bonus to being able to mess around with friends on that.

I find halo stupid and boring.
I dont care about other peoples opinions in the way it affects my own. High production values do not make a bad game but it certinally does not make a good one.
So in short, no, you can not provide objective justification. You find it personally boring. That's fair enough. Personally I thought the same about Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect, but I wouldn't tell fans of them that they're 'shitty' based on my own subjective interpretations either, because I don't possess the sort of ego that makes me think my personal opinion is worth more than the thousands of people who actually liked those games, and with justification for doing so as well.

Cool. Just checking.
you want objective criticism?
ok then.
they are too easy, the regenerating health allows you to pop out take a few hits then go back in.
Just about every game since halo came out does this. The games before it let you do it anyway due to the abundance of health packs.

Are you expecting world class acting? Even the "good" characters in half life are a simple "i'm an action girl who might have feelings for the protagonist and i love my father". That's not deep, that's shallow that's attempted being deep and complex.

heavymedicombo said:

By your logic, Half life ripped off resident evil. Making it a bad game. And halo came out on console at roughly the same time half life came out on console (I am aware it came out on PC 3 years before.) Aside from that i don't get the semblance to half life. In half life yGordon Freeman... oh, whats that?

*violently coughs and points at the first load of levels for half life*
Besides that, the first level you were on a ship, the second level you were in a new world, the 3rd level you were in a covenant carrier. I don't see how these locations are the same.

You were never meant to be looking directly at the characters, you were meant to be shooting stuff. What they did worked and again, half life isn't much better.

heavymedicombo said:

The point of the armour is that it supports the shield system. But hey, lets shove realism into a game where you're shooting aliens from other planets on a ring system that can wipe out all life on the galaxy. Also, grunts, who somehow managed to survive on a planet composed entirely of methane without making a spark and making another sun.

Your criticisms make no sense. Did you even play Halo? I mean, in my experience anyone who's this much against a game hasn't even played the thing.

I would much rather play an even more equal and fun online shhoter called TF2. it even has a nice player base!
I got banned off a server because i was british after 10 minutes of sitting through insult after insult. Every online game is filled with pricks, TF2 isn't perfect.

he has a couple off gravely intoned sentences in its entirety. not enough for a real character but enough that I can feel that I am not him. also, as with COD, the community is the worst part. no matter what anyone says halo is filled with racists, wankers, pricks and minors. I think that's something inherent in the popular online titles. Yes, TF2 has a nicer community. I usually just play Halo with a group of friends in party chat though.

It's odd. I hate Halo, but this does look really good. I'll have to give it a go, definitely. I'd been waiting for Reach to surprise me, and it has.
it always looks good. an IP with that much money shouldnt need any kind of flashy trailer.
I know, but in terms of gameplay, and the fact that you can construct actual levels rather than put items in existing ones, changes it up a bit.
meh. I find such delicious ignorance in people (talking about my school here) that think a level editor is recent news. its not like they havent been on pc for fuckin 15 years.
I'm with you there, but in even a solid disliker of the franchise like me has to admit that being able to play while making radical changes to the level with a more friendly interface than usual does seem like a good thing.

I actually think it looks really awesome. I'm not gonna buy Halo Reach, but I know a lot of my friends are, and I'm looking forward to trying it out. It looks like they've actually made building things viable this time, instead of just strategic stacking.

@Heavymedicombo: Well, yes. And there's nothing wrong with being a fanboy, in itself. But going and trolling the games you don't like, on the basis that you're a fanboy for OTHER games, isn't good. :/

methinks somebody is butthurt about halo being popular?

Let me guess, you're favourite online fps is TF2, your favourite offline fps is half life 2, followed by the episodes and half life 1, your favourite puzzle game and 'BEST GAME EVAR' according to you is portal, and you are going to preorder portal 2. Am i close, valve fanboy?
He's a Valve fanboy because he prefers TF2 to Halo? Really?

I am not trolling. I am merely stating why I dont think Halo is a good game. its called an opinion.
You are stating your opinion, sure, but the method in which you did so in a thread full of Halo fans could be considered trolling.

But actually, I dunno why I'm complaining about you. As far as Escapist members go, you're pretty civil. There is a whole metric shitload of worse trolls on these forums, most of which are Valve/Bioware fanboys of the type that make the rest look bad.
