Seriously, if you're an "FPS noob" a big bundle of averageness won't make the genre particularly appealing to you. On the other hand I suppose you COULD enjoy it (I don't see how), and you'll only go on to find bigger and far better things.

I did exactly that. Played Halo 2 first, then went on to HALO 1.

No matter how many people tell me Halo sucks, I look at the original Halo and don't see it. The sequels yeah, but the original Halo rules. Compared to any FPS, not just console ones. I think Halo: CE is better than Half-Life 2. Yeah, suck on that. I like both, but Halo has much more addictive gameplay. And no stupid stepladder weapons progression. And better AI. And way better vehicle sections.

Halo is pretty meh to be honest, just your standard sci-fi shooter.

I suppose some of the sections are pretty awesome (Halo 1 finale is pretty awesome)

I'm not trying to threaten or intimidate here, I'm giving friendly advice.
I've stopped playing Halo 2 online because it's pretty much nothing but ADD-misdiagnosed squeakers who will call you a n00b approximately once every .76 seconds and disconnect anytime it looks like they're losing. Avoid this place, as it is toxic.

Well in either the campaign or multiplayer make sure to have at least one plasma weapon. Plasma pistol is best for the elites in the campaign and in multiplaayer it's best to use a plasma rifle/human weapon combo for a quick kill.

I will consult guides for maps. I was after info that wouldn't always be obvious to a first timer to proper fps, such as good/lame guns to use and who will cause me headaches.

Maps for an fps? I had no idea they make those.
It's all straightforward or linear though, but I can't discuss things at the moment because it's freakin' late in Belgium. I'm going to sleep in a few minutes but yeah, sorry for critisizing you. Thank you for at least telling me your standpoint.

The shotgun is your best friend, and so is the rocket launcher.

But you must use the rocket launcher wisely.

Also, don't charge Hunters headfirst. They will crush you into a sticky red and green paste.

The shotgun is most definitely not your friend. It has less range than a sword lunge. I'm not kidding. Stick with plasma rifles.

i cant remember how many times i got a point blank head shot with a shotty when a person charged at me with the sword. swords are awesome, but if you see the sword guy before he charges shot gun > sword.

-edit- also the shot gun alot more common than the sword, and i would use a sword over a shot gun, but still the shot gun is awesome, and is one of the best weapons in the game hands down.

i love battle riffle shot gun games the most back in the day. just battle riffles and shot guns <3

I actually quite like Halo. It certainly serves as a good first FPS. Halo 2 was my first, and I love FPSs now. Although, I do like the CoD and the GoW series both more than Halo. Halo's probably still my 3rd favorite FPS series though.

Yes you can. As for tips, plasma weapons drains shields, and bullets take out health faster.

Oh, and if there is a little dot in the middle of your reticule when you aim at the head, that means it will kill an unshielded enemy with one head shot.
