I wasn't even sure where it was set - I was under the impression that it was in Dover, but you say Germanic enemies, so I guess it must be Dover having been taken by Saxon raiders or something and then the Romans are for some reason trying to launch D-day against the British Isles.

Folks after my own heart. When did the germanii start building stone fortresses?Abomination said:And since when did the Germanic tribes build... multi-layered stone fortresses?THE_MUFFIN_MAN15 said:If this is the decline of Rome then I'm pretty sure that those Roman uniforms are historically inaccurate
Was that a trebuchet in that tower? Why did every single legionnaire look copy pasted? Why were the shields so small? Why would they engage archers with pila? Where were they keeping them? Why would they all spread out immediately after disembarking when their army was designed to fight in formation (some general you turned out to be!)?
Gears of Rome... could have been so much better than that QTE mess.
They certainly did have freedoms... if you were a land-owning male Roman who had performed 20 years of military serivice.Dimitriov said:Or the horrible voice over at the beginning... my god. Yes, Rome was definitely known for its freedom...
Also why is Ryse misspelled?
Really? Because it seems like they designed the entire combat system around QTEs...and apparently it's not even "Press X To Not Die", but rather it's "Press Any Key To Continue."the design intent wasn't for combat to be like a quick-time event.
Sweet, delicious irony! +1 everything to you for pointing it out. Sadly, the Roman Empire limped on for many years before finally collapsing; the same could be true of microsoft.Frotality said:i find it hilariously fitting that a launch title for the xbone is about a bloated empire that brought about its own end.
The difference between this and Space Marine is that Space Marine was reflective of the setting... it was actually pretty fun and didn't invole QTEs all over the place.Doug said:Sweet, delicious irony! +1 everything to you for pointing it out. Anywho, the gameplay reminds me of that dull Space Marine game (the warhammer 40k one). So, yeah, if killer apps where what microsoft where planning to woo us with, I remain unconvinced. Sticking with my beautiful, controlled by me PC - and if you Microsoft fools try to take that from me, I know how to use Linux, and I'm not afraid to use it.
Also, why did they throw three of the exact same spears at the enemy? A Roman Legionary would have only had 2 pila, and the weren't uniform, mostly because the legionaries would have made them themselves.Dimitriov said:Abomination said:And since when did the Germanic tribes build... multi-layered stone fortresses?THE_MUFFIN_MAN15 said:If this is the decline of Rome then I'm pretty sure that those Roman uniforms are historically inaccurate

Not to mention the gladius: well known for its use as a slashing sword. Or the horrible voice over at the beginning... my god. Yes, Rome was definitely known for its freedom...

I laughed. +1 Internets for you (allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery).Frotality said:i find it hilariously fitting that a launch title for the xbone is about a bloated empire that brought about its own end.

there are italian and latin accents that doesnt sound like mario and luigi, you know...
That's the other thing I was thinking... the ships? What part of the Germanic tribes borders the Medditeranian?Bill Nye the Zombie said:And like others have said, I'd love to see the Germanic tribe that managed to build a medieval castle complete with catapults..... right next to the ocean. No offense to any Germanic tribesmen out there, but they were mostly still trying to make wooden walls. If this were made by a Greeks/Egyptians/Any other civilization south of Germany, Gaul, Britain, I would be willing to believe they would make a castle.
Yup, this is me as well. I could barely watch the reveal during the conference as I was shaking my head to much and hiding my eyes from all of the inaccuracies I saw. I stopped watching at them swinging a spatha (assuming it's not a gladius). Sigh.Abomination said:No thanks, I'll wait until the PC Exclusive Rome 2: Total War available on Steam with all its modding support and more playable factions than just "Dude in a frilly red hat".
