It is said, by one very hot Angelina, that happy endings are for stories that haven't finished yet. Truer words have not been said.

I haven't been here very long, just something like 8 months. However i was lucky enough to catch the tail end of an age. The age of the scrooge.

You see, all things go through eras. The Escapist is no exception. I've heard tails of the golden months of 2008. And the month of the trolls. As great events in the life of a website change it irrevocably, memories become cherished treasures. As time passes, longing for these "olden days" grows. Nostalgia goggles take their tole on the truth, and we're left with a hole in our heart.

The age of the scrooge has passed. You see, as popularity for this site grew, it attracted new audiences. Audiences of a diverse background. Audiences that accentuated the socially inept appearance of our cultural Archons. Old masters like MaxTheReaper. Those who would stand on the front lawn of the forum games section and shake their canes at the passing kids. Those who would remember the old ways of honor, dignity, and respect for the language we speak. It was the age of the scrooge.

And now that time has passed. The flood of new users has drowned some of our oldest masters. Some remain, others have not been so lucky. But that does not change the fact that their opinion and advice mean nothing to the sea of new users.

Old dogs. You will be missed.

It saddens me that this website would turn its back on those who were there when its popularity was first forged. It seems an empty place. i once believed this site was a paradise from the outside world; a haven from the illiterate, the angry, and the troll.

I had decided i should create something for the few who see this to remember. So i have decided this shall be a memorial thread for those who have fallen. Our cemetery. So leave the name of a member who is gone now, a member that you will miss. And perhaps a short eulogy if you are so adept with words.

Watchu talkin bout?

EDIT: I suppose I should clarify, so I don't seem more mean than I am. There are plenty of the oldies still around. They hide in the woodwork, IRC, role plays user groups and the like. Sure, some leave and it sucks but that's just the way of things. This isn't the first community in which people have left and I doubt it will be the last. I see that you've lost a friend in MaxTheReaper but his banning isn't something worth your leaving. If all the oldies left when one fell than the community would die in an instant. The new kin aren't any worse than the new kin back in December 2007 or 2006 and neither is anyone else.

what's up with all these "we miss the good old days threads"
nothing has changed, you are the reason this place might be changing.

You have to remeber the "oldies" were once new too. In time the new users will become acoustomed to the Escapists ways, then over time we have a site full of "oldies".. and super oldies.

This place was never a safe haven from trolls. This place just has competent mods working. I used to lurk for along time and never really saw the pinnacle of intellect people claim this website contains. Not saying it doesn't have, it has plenty of "intelligent" threads oh so often and people like NewClassic that drop some class when ever they come around, but that's it.(also best section user reviews...just because I don't head to the forum games.)

People come and go and Max wasn't really the best example of good behaviour.

Anyway...it's a damn website, it's not like you leaving your home town/country forever....you don't need to make a melodramatic farewell.

Disliking influx of new, overall decent members strikes me as elitism. And so-called "oldies" were/are mostly misanthropes, so i guess decrease in wangst is another "proper" reason for leaving.

Fine then. You will most certainly not be missed by me - i barely knew you anyways.

And oh. HUBILUB? Seconded in every buggering way.

I knew that there would be people complaining about MaxTheReaper. Seriously, you're blaming the flood of new users on MaxTheReapers demise? He was banned for another reason, having to do with posting insulting comments. I've seen new people coming here that are far nicer than him. I'd say getting rid of MaxTheReaper is in many ways an improvement.

You brake the rules, you take the fall. Why honor the "old dogs" when they got banned for going against the rules of our forum?

Well, if I'm going to post someone, I'm going to say Furburt.

I know, I know, he's not gone yet... emphasize on yet.

It saddens me that this website would turn its back on those who were there when its popularity was first forged. It seems an empty place. And so, i bid what few friends i have here goodbye. I shall not be returning to the site i once believed was a paradise from the outside world; a haven from the illiterate, the angry, and the troll.

I had to decide whether i wanted to go out in blazing glory; fighting the good fight. Or if i should leave something for the few who see this to remember. So i have decided this shall be a memorial thread for those who have fallen. Our cemetery. So leave the name of a member who is gone now, a member that you will miss. This post seems a bit elitist to me. It may not be intended that way, but it certainly comes across that way. I've been here over two years but I definitely don't want to lumped in with this whole "I am an old master in a sea of new users" attitude. There's room for everybody.

Oh, and seeya.

Wow, that almost pulled a few heart strings. Anyway, I'm not here for the people I'm just here to socialise and help the time go by when I'm not at work and at home doing absolutely jack shit. I didn't have a problem with how Max was, but he got banned for a reason like it or not.

But see ya later :)

Um, it's just a forum.

This is not the National J.R.R Tolkien Tea Society.

I came to this thread looking for massage parlor listings and I am very disappointed it does not even have any suggestions for how much to tip to get a happy ending.

This forum is fairly purposeless to anyone who's stayed here longer than 3-4 months anyway, I'm no oldie but i've already seen just about every thread on this forum repeated ad infinitum, with no new discussion and no real new ideas - the only difference is the people having the samey discussions are changing as old ones realise what I have and new ones turn up for the videos, meaning my own continued presence in this place is honestly even more of a pointless timewaster than normal forums (which are bad enough), it isn't gaining me any new information or knowledge, or enlightening me or making me form my opinions on anything new, it is merely a method of procrastinating before doing my epicly boring birdwatching assignment that is due in in a week.

Ah, c'mon. I'm not allowed to be happy and live my life to the fullest of the awesometude? Get outta' town. Just because I'm a cynic doesn't mean I'm a suffering masochistic bullseye for misfortunate. Some people get all the luck. I just happen to be one.
