It is said, by one very hot Angelina, that happy endings are for stories that haven't finished yet. Truer words have not been said.
I haven't been here very long, just something like 8 months. However i was lucky enough to catch the tail end of an age. The age of the scrooge.
You see, all things go through eras. The Escapist is no exception. I've heard tails of the golden months of 2008. And the month of the trolls. As great events in the life of a website change it irrevocably, memories become cherished treasures. As time passes, longing for these "olden days" grows. Nostalgia goggles take their tole on the truth, and we're left with a hole in our heart.
The age of the scrooge has passed. You see, as popularity for this site grew, it attracted new audiences. Audiences of a diverse background. Audiences that accentuated the socially inept appearance of our cultural Archons. Old masters like MaxTheReaper. Those who would stand on the front lawn of the forum games section and shake their canes at the passing kids. Those who would remember the old ways of honor, dignity, and respect for the language we speak. It was the age of the scrooge.
And now that time has passed. The flood of new users has drowned some of our oldest masters. Some remain, others have not been so lucky. But that does not change the fact that their opinion and advice mean nothing to the sea of new users.
Old dogs. You will be missed.
It saddens me that this website would turn its back on those who were there when its popularity was first forged. It seems an empty place. i once believed this site was a paradise from the outside world; a haven from the illiterate, the angry, and the troll.
I had decided i should create something for the few who see this to remember. So i have decided this shall be a memorial thread for those who have fallen. Our cemetery. So leave the name of a member who is gone now, a member that you will miss. And perhaps a short eulogy if you are so adept with words.
