This site is hardly the one changing. The Escapist will always be what it has been, a gaming site. It's the users that change.

Don't go cursing out the new users. All of us were that bright eyed new kid, thinking we'll change the world, or maybe make some big revelation nobody on the site has thought of yet. And when we post our big revelation, its something that has been up a good 6 or 7 times in the past week, but we never saw it because we just joined, and we get chewed out over it. Some of the older users will kindly point you in the right direction, while others give you nothing but a "search bar" response. And gradually, that new kid gets around, makes a few posts, and begins to become a veteran of these forums. Some people go the way of the angry old man, but others go the way of the kindly grandparents, and point out another users mistake and tell them what they did, so they might know not to do it again.

I'm hardly new to these forums, but at the same time, I'm not an old dog yet, either. Sure, the quality of posts can decline at times, but overall, the Escapist maintains a rather intelligent online forum. There have been messes, such as this year's March Madness, and maybe we've lost a few of our favorite posters, like Max. But we still have plenty of posters that keep things interesting around here. Posters like Neonbob, NewClassic, Cheeze_Pavillion, they almost always have something interesting to read whenever they post. Then we have users like Sky, making interesting games in the Forum Games section for those who frequent there. And then we get users like pimppeter2, making good reviews, and have proven quite helpful when it comes to making up your mind about whether or not to purchase a new game.

And the Escapist just wouldn't be the Escapist without our Mods. People like Nilcypher, wilsonscrazybed, BabyTea, CantFaketheFunk, and all of our other mods. They do a damn good job of keeping these forums clean. I still think that March Madness could not have been handled any better, even in light of the sacrifices made at the time. Then with our Featured Contributors like Reliable Source, Experienced Points, Zero Punctuation, and Stolen Pixels, we have quite the lineup of enjoyable articles. And the News Room, while not always gaming-relevant, is always a great place to retire to if you need to get away from the mania of the Off-topic and Religion & Politics forums.

In short, the glory days are far from over. These are the glory days. We are living them, we make them happen, and as long as the Escapist is a haven for gamers like us, those glory days won't be ending soon.

Well said ^.^

I also find it slightly ironic (maybe ironic? I dunno) that I've been here longer than the OP, yet I have no idea what they mean xD

Can we just get on with it? Instead of wasting our time wondering what would've been, and what has been.

....what did you think was going to happen? even if the site didnt pick up as it did.
New people come to things happen all the time. If anything its better for the site. But instead youre thinking too much about it instead of rolling with it and enjoying the site.

and then you go on and make a thread that started off with making a point and then kind of wavering in between different points to make that I'm still not exactly what the point is, especially with the title of Happy Endings.

In the end, youre pulling a Kojima, and like Kojima, you need an editor

I've been here for more than a year now. I'm hardly an oldie. But with that said, here is my rebuttal based on your hypothesis that the quality of the boards is going down.

No, it isn't. Yes, there are older members getting banned. Darth_Mobius, Jallil Vlos/Darth_Empyrean, who we knew so much about their personal lives, perhaps more than we were comfortable with. The Necroswanson, who gave at least me a new insight into Satanism, making me realize firsthand that it isn't at all just "rah, sacrifice". And most recently, Max_The_Reaper, whose posts were always caustic, but usually quite entertaining.

However, each of these users has met their tragic ends. Darth_Mobius went down for being overly confrontational and mean-spirited, his banning post linking Christians with retards. Jallil went down soon after, for an overly insulting post which, from what I hear, mixed attacks on certain users with porn. Necroswanson followed, finally taken down for his insulting and often rude posts. And most recently, Max_The_Reaper has gone down, defeated by his own hubris. That and being a jerk to everyone he disagreed with, a trait he shared, though to a lesser degree, than Darth_Mobius.

But through these bannings, others have emerged to take their place. Cheeze_Pavilon has taken up the reins as the resident facts giver, with intelligence to match his views. pimppeter is the resident reviewer with great reviews, and knowing how to entertain through text. And Neonbob, whose avatar is a common sight on topics, usually taking up topics as a snarker, his avatar of whales and explosions a common sight on topics that are started by a user of oftentimes limited perspectives.

And most importantly, the mods we all know and love are still here. Wilson, nilcypher, and the recent additions of Baby Tea, CantFakeTheFunk and UltraJoe. They are still the fair, impartial, and oftentimes quite entertaining mods we all grew up on these forums with. They haven't changed at all.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same". Never have truer words been spoken. As old hands finally fold, new deals are handed out, oftentimes just as good or better than the originals. That has not changed, and will not change in the forseeable future. As a year long veteran of this site, I respectfully remind you to look at the whole, not just the part you disagree with. For every GEMS, there is a Cheeze. Remember this, lest you make a rash decision on biases.

Edit: 2 years. My, how time flies.
