Fallout 3. Enemies can take a ton of abuse.
No, they take the same amount of abuse to kill that they do on normal, the only difference is they deal twice as much damage, and you deal half as much...

Honestly Fallout 3's difficulty just pisses me off. At least with Oblivion the reward is your skills go up faster... not so much here...
Dpn't you get extra Xp on higher difficulties?

Well the only game that I own that I haven't completed on the hardest difficulty is Halo Wars. One early mission has you protect 3 civilian ships and on that difficulty they get wasted by a few dozen enemy hits. It gets very annoying. I can also see issues with the last level which always gives me issues. DAMN YOU SCARABS CREATED BY THE COVENANT.

TES 4 Oblivion, move the difficulty slider up to full and it's IMPOSSIBLE! it's hard work to kill a f*#king mudcrab :L

Homefront is pretty hard on "Guerrilla" The friendly AI just losses 674635463 IQ on that setting -_- which makes it impossible to trust any friendlies :/

OF: Dragon Rising and Red River are hard games on Normal.

Halo Reach with every skull and Legendary difficulty, I still haven't finished it :(

I've played quite a few games and after playing them on Normal the first time through, the hardest difficulty didn't seem that bad afterwards, if anything, there were only slight changes, yes I did notice the difficulty change, but I wasn't really that bothered by it.

But what games have you played where the hardest difficulty made you think, "**** me, that was HARD, not sure if I'll be able to complete this any time soon".

I'm talking about the type of hard that used to exist in some games in the old days, not the hard where there are few saves and obvious game flaws, but the type of hard that makes you grit your teeth and clench your fists.
There are plenty of games that are hard because they're unfair. A lot of "bullet hell" style games are like that.

However, one of the hardest games I've ever played was MechCommander. On the hardest difficulty (and sometimes even lower difficulties), it was almost impossible to beat a good portion of the missions. Even if you didn't have limited ammo turned on. In fact, some missions were so hard it was almost impossible to win even if you had the cheats active.

Yet, it wasn't because it was "unfair". Those "impossible" missions were quite winnable. It's just that it took a zen-like level of concentration, an exquisite level of knowledge in both the map and enemies, and a high degree of finesse in controlling your squad of mechs.

Beating those missions were some of the most frustrating yet rewarding moments I've had in a game.

In Oblivion and Morrowind? Sure... well, kinda. TES effectively awards XP based on damage dealt and damage received (this isn't exactly how it works, but as a general concept...).

In Fallout? No. You take an XP penalty for playing on Easy or Very Easy, but there's no reward for playing on Hard or Very Hard. It's one of the main reasons I simply never bothered to play through the game on those difficulties.

Kane and Lynch on Morphine mainly only the Dump truck and the revolution levels. Dump truck level is completely screwed up because you leave the only a fraction jenny gets killed. You stay there and you cant get a clear shot and Lynch is firing in the wrong direction.

Use your profile from the first play through (the one where you have max level and level 10 armour and weapons) then say its hard

OT: Hardest difficulty o starcraft 2 in my opinion was nasty. was nice on hard but...

Well, not entirely true. If you play it on very hard you get way more XP.

IWBTG on impossible is... a pretty accurate description. I imagine doing a no-spoilers run through Nethack has to be up there too, though to be fair, I still haven't beaten it with spoilers. (Stupid final boss)

Yeah, according to the Vault, there's a 25% xp shift between each difficulty level, which stands in sharp contrast to what I recall from when I played the game.

TimeSplitters 2. It took me longer to beat the first level on Hard than to beat the entire game on Normal. The first level is disproportionally hard (after beating it I beat the second level on my first try) but the later levels then start to become nightmares again.

the final stage of Elite beat agents on hardrock mode.the getting anything less than a 300 on a tap pretty much doesn't fill up the meter and if you miss ONE marker you may as well quit and start over because there is NO time for recovery

Mass Effect 2 wasn't really hard on the hardest difficulty.
Some missions for Starcraft 2 on brutal with achievements were quite hard. But then again, I was bad at Sc2 when I did those.

Halo 3 on legendary with on death restart skull on. But to make things worse, doing it with 4 other people. So this means if anybody dies you have to restart the whole mission. Raged so hard.
