Well the hardest part of a game I've ever played is the Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Time Trial on Gran Turismo 5. I've never even heard of anyone finishing that with the gold trophy. As for the hardest game ever, I'd say it's I Wanna Be The Boshy. Watch pieceofpiesoftware play that game on youtube and you will get angry for him.

Duuudee, I agree, the levels were somewhat long and hard, but I seriously LOVE that game. It was so memorable. I think it's probably the 2nd best PC game I've ever played.

Now, the real hardest game is Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. Good luck getting past level 2.

If you're going to call a game the hardest ever, you need to go into more detail.
If you ever played Jedi Outcast you would know why. I hate puzzle games though soooo.

I nominate the original Contra.

Old games were way more cruel than any game today. Dark Souls, take a fucking seat.
Well this guy can't beat his friends at Mario Party but look what he pulled off:
To be fair, Mario Party its completely(and I mean completely) luck-based.

On topic: I Wanna Be The Guy, easily.

When I was a little kid, the later levels on the first Crash Bandicoot were pretty evil. That being said, I had a habit then (that I still have now) of trying to get everything in a game, 100% completion - in this case, it included getting every single box in order to get all the Gems as well (and get the good ending with Tawna without having to kill Cortex on his blimp).

Nowadays, I can't really think of a really tough game that I own. Except certain missions on Halo Wars. Although, I did used to have the first .Hack// game, Infection, which I then got rid of - not because I didn't like the game (I thought it was pretty great), but because boss fights took forever, spending a literal hour fighting before I get the chance to use Data Drain to remove the invincibility, and then fighting another full hour just to get the boss's health down to zero. To this day I'm still not sure if I was simply doing it wrong, or if that really was the way those boss fights were meant to be...

I don't mean to insult you, but honestly? I know eight year olds who can smash me at that game.

Jedi Knight Outcast II is EASY. So damn EASY.

OT: Dark Souls maybe?

I haven't played it, but it has to be this hands down

It'd be hard enough just putting up with that Boss's laugh.
well atleasst its a pretty death.....holy crap what are you sopossed to do against that?
You are supposed to dodge the patterns only the center of the players ship is venerable. Think of it like a racing game where you have to navigate the bends a certain way, if you do it wrong you come off the track. It takes practice and needs a high degree of concentration and just like a driving game there are a number of techniques which need to be known to bullet dodge with any degree of skill.

But that video shown is the hardest mode which is only for the very best players. I have this game and have just recently 1 credit cleared this game mode called Original. As you can see its much easier (this is the whole of stage 5 the boss fight is at the end)

If you watch the whole vid you will see the player using the technique called "streaming" where the player moves left and right in tune with each wave of bullets so that he doesnt get trapped, notice he gets trapped at one point where the bullets start pushing him up the screen so has to drop a bomb to save himself

The player is just playing for suvival here and ignoring playing for score where you have to think up different strategies and make much risker bullet dodges.

Beats the hell out of me, I haven't played it. I've only seen that video. Although according to one of the YouTube comments, apparently that game has a mode where you face 2 of that boss at the same time. Can't confirm that though. I have seen a video of someone beating that boss without taking a single hit though.
The game with 2 bosses is the other CAVE shmup I mentioned earlier called DOJ Death Label. Mushihisama Futari has an extra hidden boss if you manage to beat Ultra Mode without continuing.

Devil May Cry 2 on Dante must die was a frustrating experience. As was MGS2 on European Extreme difficulty

Driver 2, why? It was at points such a buggy and laggy mess that I broke 2 copy's over it (first kept crashing in Havana, second copy didnt work at all) on my third copy I actually managed to finish it....
.... 10 years after release....

This link will show the most ridiculous mission of them all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVNmuB16vgk
A friend of mine had a Playstation when we were younger, and neither of us could even finish the car park tutorial in the first game.
Me and my brother had the same trouble on that! I swear you only needed like 5 more seconds for it to be physically possible, whoever decided that a tutorial needs a timer needs to be shot out of a cannon!

Hardest game I've every played is the "Are You A Retard?" map on Warcraft 3. Damn those maps were hard, you had to have millimetre accuracy, splitsecond timing, and not follow instructions ... whilst not falling for traps. In the 8 years that I played Warcraft 3 for I never once finished one of these!

From what I remember I struggled greatly with Heart of Darkness. I couldn't get past the beginning.

A good few games on Action 52 are simply impossible to beat, how's that? As far as games that are possible to beat but are still outrageously difficult just check out most Roguelikes. I suggest Dungeons Of Dredmor which is on steam currently for only 1.50-2.50 and offers a lot of great humor, challenge, customization, and references to keep anyone busy.
