The Ultimate Chimera from Mother 3 (GBA). I swear, the thing can't die and it kills you instantly.

In all seriousness, though, I think I have to agree with Mizar from Jet Force Gemini (N64). Even with the homing missile upgrades, I didn't seem to phase him in the slightest...

EDIT: That, and Dullahan from Golden Sun: Lost Age (GBA). Or the Star Magician from the same game when you first fight him.
xD Well duh...it IS the Ultimate Chimera after all! XD -shot-

Seriously though...probably the second time you fight Yokuba/Fassad...you know...New Pork City sewers? THAT is hard XP

Drek from Ratchet and Clank 1 and Nefarious in Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal's challenge mode...DEFINITELY. Both without the R.Y.N.O.

And though I despise the game with a burning passion, the final two bosses in the Bevelle dungeon in FFX-2 WITHOUT Cat Nip equipped...damn near impossible D:
I didn't find Miracle Fassad to be that bad. He's easier than the Barrier Trio (especially when you spam PK Thunder gamma).
Gah forgot about the Barrier Trio......but yeah Miracle Fassad isn't that bad if you're leveled up enough...which I wasn't the first time...but I still have issues with his damn PK Starstorm...

And I forgot one boss...Theseus on Titan difficulty in God of War 2...I died over 100 times last time I did Titan...AND THEN MY SAVE GOT DELETED DX
Memory repression does that to you occasionally.
And did Miracle Fassad have PK Starstorm? I thought his strongest attack was PK Thunder omega, and Starstorm was only used by the Barrier Trio once (and the Men's Room Sign, too...)
Yes he uses it. The three times I've fought him, he used it 2 times...xD
Heh. I must've been lucky, then. He's never used it on me. At least, not that I can remember...

Alpha-581 Dead or Alive 4 on the xbox 360. She was so damn cheap. You had to let her pummel you 50bazillion times to learn how to counter her moves and even then she would still teleport behind you when you attacked. I swear that she gets more powerful the less health she has -_-
This. Especially on Time Attack, where you have to win TWO FECKIN' ROUNDS. Hours of frustration, being forced to watch the wench break your character in various places.

Murai (Ninja Gaiden Black, level 1) gets an honourable mention - he's not the hardest boss ever, but he's just not what you'd expect from the first boss of the game.

Everyone's first few times against him go something like this:

OK, level boss - just charge in and...
WHACK
THUMP
OW

OK, my fault, know what I did wrong there - let's try again...
BONK
CRUNCH
AARRGGHH

Little harder than I thought. Not a problem...
BANG
SPLAT
HEEEEELLLLLP

I am on "normal" mode, aren't I?
CRACK
SMASH
PLEASE MUMMY MAKE HIM STOP

The hell is this game?!

I-No in Guilty Gear XX2.

And Mizar in Jet Force Gemini, I could never manage to beat him.
Jet Force Gemini? I never even finished. Low tolerance for a game that makes me do something so tedius as to collect all the damn furries in the entire game.

For me. Quill from red faction two. don't think I ever did it without cheats because I gave up to easily(i.e. Didn't want to spend all night on it)...

Well if you fight him properly, you'll never see it at all. The last time I did it, I used Kumatora's PK Starstorm then PK Love Omega right after he used a Luxury Banana (a cue that he's going to use Starstorm soon), and it killed him outright xD

Xaero on nightmare in SP Quake III Arena, because you can hang him upside down and shake him at 1000 revolutions a second and he'll still have >90% railgun accuracy.

And this,

Mike Tyson from Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
EDIT: and many of the boss fights from the original Resident Evil. Come to think of it, that entire game is pretty unforgiving, especially on hard.

M. Bison from SFII is also a cheap bastard.

The Devil in GH3...on expert can get frustrating
This. I kind of count Through the Fire and the Flames on Expert as a boss too.

Also, when I was a kid playing Ocarina of Time the first time, I thought the last Gannon was kind of tough. But maybe I was just young. I'm off to play it again.

WoW: Pre-nerf M'uru, Pre-nerf C'thun

/thread

Edit: For those who don't know, M'uru was a boss that required absolute perfection from 25 people for 5+ minutes. Random deaths were an instant loss. C'thun was considered mathematically impossible before he was nerfed in a later patch.

Final Fantasy Legend 1 for Gameboy

The Creator (10/10) - Easily the hardest final boss of any game I've played (granted, it is supposed to be God). Also, the most disappointing ending in any game I've played.

Shadow Yukiko in Persona 4. Once you know what to do, it's not too bad, but it's just such a huge difficulty spike compared to the first dungeon, it being the second dungeon boss of the game.

Satanail at the end of Star Ocean: The Last Hope is a pretty big pain in the ass. When he decides he wants a character taken out, they go down no matter what you do. Several times I saw him going for the healer and tried to pull his attention off her. No dice. Plus, the fight takes at least 15 minutes to get to a point where you can actually HURT the boss.

Even though it's an RPG, Dullahan from Golden Sun, I don't care what items, levels, psynergy, classes etc. you're carrying are; he is still going to bend you over a couch and beat your ass with a meat tenderizer. His over the top unfair Charon summon and Djinn Storm combo, one decimates your team with possible insta kills, the other pretty much murders your class setup for 9 rounds, he has 16k HP, moves 3 times a turn, everything that isn't a status effect is going to hurt a lot, restores 200 HP a turn, has a drain move that restores 100% HP he steals from 3 of your front party, can end your healer types with Formina Sage.

Now imagine getting that three times in a row in the battle arena.

I have heard forging Excaliburs help, but I don't have that kind of luck, 5% forge chance, yeah screw that.
I agree. Dullahan was the hardest boss I've ever encountered in a game. However, after I beat him once or twice, I found a much easier way to kill him. The trick to beating Dullahan is start the fight with having 8 Dijinn set to each character. Then have everyone do two 4-dijinn summons (judgement, etc.). This will kill him in a few turns (at least it did in my game).

nasty gnork from spyro... the original on the PSX, still haven't beaten him to this day as lame as that sounds, I've never been fast enough to hit him that last time... *puts hands in face and cries deeply*

not really hard in the sense of 'ARGH he keeps killing me' more in the sense of 'GOD F**KING DAMMIT I CAN'T F**KING HIT THIS SON OF A B***H!!!'

I sympathize with the first post and agree with the second. But you have to admit the reward is worth it. 'Course if you can beat Dullahan then you don't really need it, but being able to fling your enemies into the sun is more about increasing the size of your penis than it is about tactics.

Anyhoo, there are some pretty treacherous bosses out there (like the above mentioned Dullahan), but I can only think of one that I thought the game would have been better off without. That one is the Star Destroyer in The Force Unleashed. I'm referring to the PS3 version, so if it's piss easy on the Wii, forgive me. It's difficult to put into words, but I think a moth I squished was reincarnated as that boss and it was bent on exacting it's terrible revenge.
