I'm to much of a coward to face my fear, i have a huge phobia of insects and arachnids, as soon as something is close to me, be it a spider, a hornet, a butterfly or something as simple as a earwig, i panic each time.

I dont know why really, but i once sat in a corner crying with fear over 2 butterflies who was flying around near my lamp in my roof...i dont know why, i cant move, i get trouble breathing and if they get close i scream and start to cry with fear.

And not alot of people think so because i am a pretty huge guy.

But no, i havent tried facing my phobia, and i doubt i will, as soon as i get a job i can move into the city where there are less insects.

I have a serious phobia of driving a car. I've tried multiple times, but after the time in which I started having a panic attack, blacked out momentarily and did a skid along the highway in the rain, at 80kms? Never getting behind the wheel again.

It really didn't help me.

I grabbed a spider in my hand and crushed it.
It didn't work, I'm still as terrified of them as ever

If your scared of spiders i wouldn't go covering myself in them. Otherwise yeah face your fears don't dive in head first but its better to face them ,how else do you aspire to better yourself.

I've faced up to my fears many times.
I don't think I have any phobias, though.

If you face your fear you probally shouldn't jump right into it but should ease your way there gradually.

There's both, by the way, systematic desensibilization (or whatever it's called in English) and flooding (which would be "jumping right into it"). Both have their merits in therapy.

You know how scary fire is? It kills people and causes horrible pain in the process.
Totally agree. I really wish people wouldn't joke on here about being pyromaniacs.

I'm a survivor of two serious car crashes when I was a young child. I don't know if it counts as a phobia, when you have that sort of experience, but i think my reaction to it is still fairly irrational.

It does suck though, because it limits my movement so much. I have to rely on public transport. Ugggggh.

I turn my fear into anger thats how i conquered my fear of spiders. A spider....grrrrrr stomp! You shall never see the light of day again. However if i saw anything bigger than a wolf spider i would probably jump 5 feet in the air and get the HELL away.

The only real phobia I have is of fish (I know, weird; public speaking is fine by me, but keep me away from fish). I've faced it a few times, swimming in the ocean and doing a program at an aquarium. But even though I can force myself in the water, I'm still deeply uncomfortable. I even get weirded out seeing fish behind glass or on the television. I think in some ways, making myself confront my fears has actually increased my level of discomfort. But...I can always avoid fish if I want to. So now I enjoy the beach but don't go in swimming (or get the hell out the moment I even THINK I see/feel a fish).

I have a few times. Once I (phobia of crowds of people and social interaction) went to my high school for about a month (it's crowded back to back), but soon just lost it and left again to be home-schooled. Another time, I went to apply for a job, but after doing so, I couldn't go through with it. I gained a little confidence, but never enough to do it again. I have to soon though.

I have this really weird phobia.(weirder than most phobias) It somewhat relates to my fear of germs.(not my own)

I refuse to touch anything related to food if it has been touched by others. If I find out something has been touched by others, depending on what I did, I will either put it down or drop it.(the one time I drank from someone else's cup I dropped it and spent the whole day drinking as much water as possible while feeling sick, filthy and miserable)
I'm slowly getting better at touching those things though. A year ago, I wouldn't even touch any dirty plate after dinner, but now I sometimes bring them to the kitchen. This is followed by me washing my hands for at least five minutes but I'm at least slowly getting over this fear.
A few years ago, my father gave me a cup of coffee, it wasn't until after I nearly finished it that I found the spoon to be covered in old cat food. He assumed everything in his dishwasher was clean and, without checking, got a few cups and spoons from it for coffee.

My fear of germs somehow gave me an obsession that completely contradicts this phobia. [http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Corprophilia] I guess it's that I can't believe anyone would do such a thing, and that through understanding why people like it, I can understand and maybe overcome my own fear.
