The problem with COD is, it's fallen into a rut. It's fan service now and it's not trying anything new.
Yeah. I agree. If they changed it up and tried something every game it might seem like its worth it but just look at the releases.

Personally I love Halo the most out of all FPS's but you have in release order:

Halo 3 -> CoD4 -> WaW -> MW2 ->Blops/Halo Reach within a month or two.

CoD came out with four games in the timespan of Halo's one. It kinda gives the illusion that although there's barely anything new with each game, there's something new coming out all the time. It took Halo over 10 years to come out with 4 solid-direct sequel games where CoD took what... 2-3 years?

It can't keep it up for too much longer, and now with Microsoft in charge of Halo instead of Bungie I fear that Halo will fall into that same rut as well. I'm willing to give 343 a shot though before dismissing them as corporate cash-in developer with no intent on trying anything really risky. Because even though the Halo sequels are well spaced out, IMO, it doesn't mean they aren't getting a bit stale.

I think this is the year CoD dies, and innovation comes back to FPS's. There's Brink, which is totally changing the multiplayer format as well as taking us back to it's roots of the Enemy Territory games, there's Bulletstorm which isn't particularly original, but looks like a hark back to shameless 90's ass kickers, there's Bodycount that we've still heard nothing about, there's X-COM, wich looks damn good even if purists will hate it, and there's Homefront that...Is CoD with cars and a storyline written by a nutcase.

Just trust me, things are gonna change. I bet we hardly even see too many FPS's in 2012 and onwards for a while!

Call of Duty's insane level of popularity will die down eventually I think. The same probably goes for the other genres as well, although I do find it irritating that so many games are being accused of riping off another game, when their only similarity is their genre. There'll always be leaders of the genres though, and they'll be the first point of comparison whenever any similar game is released.

No need to appologise for dissing CoD in any way man.
In every gamers heart there's a reason not to like that game.

As for anyone else who feels the need to compare any shooter to a game that takes itself too seriously and leaks of all the wrong kinds of patriotism is the sort of gamer that we needn't listen to.

Dont worry fella.

Do you want the short answer? Yes.

The long answer? YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.

Basically, it's spoiled almost every FPS player into thinking that you don't have to aim in order to get a kill or you don't have to work as a team in order to get the win.
