Has there been a jrpg in the last 9 years that was not completely annoying?

Last Remnant was one of the few recent(ish) JRPGs that I really enjoyed. It's a bit awkward to get used to the mechanics which are a bit too chance-based for my taste, but at least it tried something new with the old JRPG formula. I can't say they were 100% successful because the game has its share of issues, but I found it a breath of fresh air combined to the average JRPG. I'm secretly hoping for a sequel that works out the kinks in the system, it could be great.
What did you think of Davide's accent? Didn't that annoy a bit? It annoyed me a bit.
Heh, I honestly didn't mind it that much. I know a lot of people found it annoying, just like how a lot of people found Rush' overly naive behaviour most of the time annoying. I didn't, really. I thought they gave the game a bit of charm (and I have my own theory about why Rush' naiveté and David's way of responding to it are very significant, but this is not the place to discuss that).

I dunno, I've always had a weakness for flawed gems when it comes to gaming... Probably why I'm such a Troika fanboy.

Dragon Quest VIII was pretty fantastic.

Of course, your level of enjoyment will depend entirely on what you consider to be annoying. DQ VIII is decidedly old-school, in that it's very hard to progress at a steady clip if you don't set aside time to do some grinding and keep your party nine or ten levels ahead of the curve. If you're not into ball-bustingly difficult JRPGs, you'll probably hate it.

Let me check... no, all JRPGs are extremely annoying. I got to the point where I do not really even give them a chance.

I last played Fiesta, and every time the screen told me to do some dumb quest or action or said "No, you can't wear that armor because you aren't in that class!" I would end up saying "No. No. I reject your stupid, stupid, dumb-ass reality and am now going outside so that I do not kill myself from playing this retarded f'ing game."

the only JRPG's I really liked were FF6 and Crono trigger. oh, and the Mario RPG series.

I've played a couple that are both hilarious and not very annoying. Arc the Lad and Dot Hack spring to mind. I want to say Legend of Disgaea as well but there are annoying sections of the game that would put people off of it.

Has Tales of Symphonia came out in the last 9 years?

If it did, I strongly suggest that one, extremely fun, and a good combat system
I wholeheartedly agree with you, Kuchinawa212. I thought that Tales of Symphonia was amazing. Combat was very fun, and the story was exceptional.

Also, the game came out on July 13, 2004 (in North America).

By the way, nice avatar. :D

Well, I had to rely on Wikipedia for the date, but I thought it came out around then.

Yeah, I was able to beat him. And, yes, he was quite a pain. xD

I should get around to beating Dawn of the New World.

Might as well echo some fellow fans on Tales of Symphonia. It has it's cliches (every RPG does. WRPG, JRPG, anything. period.) but what makes the story so awesome is how it has those "didn't see it coming moments" along with those cliches which makes everything better.

While I was playing it I was loving how a plot point was developing and it wasn't until I looked back at the story after I had beat the game and thought, "how did they make a cliche thing like that so awesome?"

Oh, whenever anyone mentions the name Kratos I don't think of God of War at all thanks to this game.

Haha! Same here, man.

I'd also like to note that Tales of Symphonia has excellent music.

Lost Odyssey is the main one. Final Fantasy X and XII weren't too bad, although X had the god awful laughing scene, and XII had... Vaan. Kingdom Hearts I and II were great, although on the easy side.

You have to know what to avoid, but JRPGs can be pretty fun.

don't buy into the stupid stereotype just because that's what cool right now. it's older than 9 years, but my favorite jrpg is skies of arcadia legends for the gamecube and the dreamcast. and what about the world ends with you?

Why the hell are people so damn easily annoyed? I'd hate to associate with you in real life if you got pissed of at EVERYTHING.

I'm just asking because when I was a kid the only rpgs out their were from japan, but it just seems that lately they have been getting lamer and more annoying. I'm not trying to start a fight just give me an example of a newer on that is fun and has a good story.
Played 358/2 on DS yet? I'm unable to fault it yet, and I quite like the mission layout as opposed to the free roaming world idea of the first two.
