In theory Terminator 4 is actually a prequal of what happened before Terminator 1.
I know it's in the future, but also in the time travel past or something. Time travel makes thing complicated.

It wasnt very good though.

??? Is it not an independent story from A Fistful of Dollars and A Few Dollars More? There is no real timeline, if anything TGTBTU was after A Few Dollars More. Please do correct me if I am wrong.

So far no one has come up with something that is actually a prequel (unless I'm wrong about TGTBTU), not a reboot or a flat out sequel (T2... wtf).

If you watch carefully, it begins as a seemingly stand alone film. But Eastwood slowly collects the pieces of his Man With No Name, particularly when he takes his poncho from a dead man near the end of the film. Basically the last 20ish minutes of TGTBTU are the beginning of the next two.

But then this depends on whether you consider the entire work a "trilogy" or more of a series of stories featuring a single character.
I like to think of it as a series of story with a common character BUT that is awesome if he got his poncho in TGTBTU and carries it over to the other two films.

Now I got an excuse to watch them all again :) Thanks!

Underworld Rise of the Lycans was a decent prequel. The other two movies had bits and flashbacks to past events and Rise showed the full sequence of events and even explains how most of the other characters came into the picture. I enjoyed it.
Took the words right out of my mouth good sir.

Casino Royale, Star Trek (2009), Batman Begins. They're good.
Technically speaking those would be considered reboots rather then prequels.

While prequels may look better due to today's technology, they usually just shame the franchise.

You are correct! I believe that is /thread

Temple of Doom WAS a prequel to raiders and it is undeniably good!

<3 Conman and I apologize for my doubt.

You say no one has come up with any prequels, yet you chose to leave out all of the ones that were prequels:

Godfather 2
Rise of the Lycans
Casino Royale
Temple of Doom
Star wars PREQUEL trilogy.

I know you were probably generalising, but i was born to be anal.

Godfather 2 was half and half, I am not going to count that I'm sorry. (EDIT: I should clarify that I mean it is half sequel half prequel so I don't want to count it, if you count this there are a heck of a lot more sequels that you could now categorize as prequels just because of heavy flashbacks. PS: GF2 is one of my top 5 fave movies).
Rise of the Lycans... ain't exactly Shakespeare and I am a movie snob. But I am sure it was better than Underworld 2, that was horrible. I didn't even like the first one come to think of it :S
Casino Royale was a reboot.
Temple of Doom I acknowledged and called for the /thread
Star Wars prequels.... THEY ARE WIDELY DESPISED. Sure some people like them but I really think that it is too disputed that they are "good". Therefore I will not count them.

Of course this is my opinion, but a good majority of fans prefer the original trilogy to the prequels.

what theory?it is not a prequal and nowhere near one, perhaps maybe a prequal if we experinced the future before the terminators were sent back and might have got more information about Kyle and Connor becuase the logic goes that Connor never existed until Kyle went back in to the past and mated with sahara

ot:T4 was complete balls, I was expecting a future like it was shown in T1,T2 & T3 however the smug director came along and made T4 separate, what we have been taught in T1,T2 & T3 means nothing now and the dictator director is now going to do whatever what he sees fit

That was a reboot. It is not even in the same universe as the other Batman films. Not a prequel by any stretch of the imagination.

Hmmm.....That makes sense. Ok, then....Um......Apparently Temple of Doom was a prequel so I guess I'll say Temple of Doom.

I don't agree with bastyaan but I understand what he means. T4 had to happen first so Rhys could be sent back and start the events of T1, and T2. I still don't agree :p If you look at it that way then Back to the Future 2 was a prequel to BTTF1 because BTTF2 started some events that took place in BTTF1. Technically BTT2 had to kind of happen first for BTTF1 to work. Hard to follow I know but all in all, neither BTTF2 nor T4 are prequels.

The only one i actually disagree with there is Casino Royale, it is a sequel to the previous films chronilogically set before all of them. Just because they changed the actor playing Bond does not mean the series was re-booted. For example; Sean Connery and Daniel Craig, both play the EXACT same Bond, just set at different times. The same way that the star wars prequels weren't reboots however the characters were portrayed by different actors.

And i originally thought you meant no one had suggested ANY prequels... not just good ones :p

I take back my anal statement

Does 'Batman begins' count as a prequel?
Yes. It's based on "Batman Year One" to a significant degree, which is a prequel.

EDIT: And to those not paying near enough attention: Reboots of prequels, prior stories written as prequels, etc. etc. etc. are prequels.

A prequel is a work that supplements a previously completed one, and has an earlier time setting.

The Terminator movies make it interesting. T4 qualifies as a prequel, and not, because it depends on which time line you're watching.

Trying to pigeon hole your definition of prequel so you can make your point, bogus. Language is based on use, not your personal defintion.
