I don't get it either. It seems so nice.

If I was to move to another country, it would probably be Canada. Seems a nice place to live - one of the more stable countries, also appears to have a reasonably similar attitude to Australia. Plus I have a British citizenship, which I believe means it would be very easy to move there (to live) if I wanted to.
its easy for anyone to move here...we have such lax immigration laws.

Well, I guess I have to say something here, don't I?

I guess it's because we can take it. We as a nation really don't take ourselves too seriously. We know who we are, we know who everyone else thinks we are, and we just roll with it.

Funny since were quite the Liberal country, it's not that hard but Ignatieff is failing at one of the easiest jobs in the world.

Being better than Steven Harpor.
How do you figure? I mean, all of our politicians are spectacularly useless, but Harper is some kind of villainous robot sent to undermine our great nation through a vindictive campaign against gay marrige, prorogue of parliament, stupid sweaters and his eerily vacant, emotionless smile.

And of course Denmark is the Scandinavian version of Canada.
Danes are just stoned Swedes in sandals.
That was one of the few funny jokes from a not so funny stand up that I saw once.
And I don't make fun of Denmark in it self.I make fun of that god awful language..I speak it to some extent,so I know what I'm talking about.

Becuase 12 year old kids think it's clever and original to make jokes about "Canadian Bacon"?

Have you ever noticed that during any kind of weather his hair stays perfectly still. Also the bastard needs to stop shutting down the factory when he fears a take over. And I know all of our politicians are useless but at least we can go back to the party we liked :p

Damn. You must physically have to fend off the hate waves every moment of your life.

Alas, the Canadiens only have 24 titles to their name.
ya its alot of crap to take, but i thrive off of trash talk and its fun to banter back and forth with my friends who are obviously all die-hard sox fans.

canada is my homeland. I love my country but i do know why some people joke about us. However first i want to list a few of the labels people give.

*ahem*
( the following is not my opinion)
Canadians are polite, nice, boring, and over all friendly
Americans think we love them
we live in igloos
we know how to icefish, camp, cut down a tree in two chops
we can survive for EVER in the wild

now, i belive that americans make fun of us because they know that if we get all pissed and "we're gonna go to war with you!" they will totally kick our asses. Then the other countries just started following america.

What do you mean by "people"? If you mean Americans, probably because Canadians talk in a very distinctive manner which we consider funny.
All I personally know is what people have said about it, which amounts to wide generalizations that may or may not be true. Also, they have a really bad health care system - this I know because my dad spent two years there doing humanitarian work - but I don't think most people are thinking about that when they mock the country.
Personally, I prefer to mock France. I know more about that country, so it makes it easier. Japan is also great to poke fun at.

I don't have a story, per se, but my girlfriend does:

When she was teaching English in Japan, she was working with some Canadians, who were constantly bashing on her inflection, grammar, and other patterns of speech. When the guy who was in charge of the program sat in on their class, he only had good things to say about her, while he said that the Canadians had no clue what they were doing.

She's had a vendetta against them ever since.

Its national anthem is frankly terrible.

...

It just doesn't scan. It is all over the place.
But at least you don't need a three octave range to sing it properly.

It's because as a nation, we have low self-esteem issues. It's always the most fun to pick on the guy you can get a rise out of.

You don't need a three octave range to sing I'm Too Sexy either, and that would make a better anthem.

That should be the Canadian national anthem. Not only does it scan, but it would be good to see the athletes trying to sing it at the Olympics.

I don't really see much that's wrong with Canada it's a beautiful place to live, especially in British Colombia, the landscape is amazing. Only thing i don't like about Canada is their government. They have a bit too much control over things. But other then that, it's awesomez
LOL.

Sorry, I don't even know why I'm laughing per se, but I, in all honesty, did.

It's probably the dig at the government, and mostly because of the irony of claiming that the government has too much control, when the government in power is right-wing (or at least right wing on the canadian spectrum).

Canada's awesome, and the lot of you yanks would be privaledged to live here. Srsly.

Hu, funny. I could of sworn they were left-wing/liberals. My Stepdad was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. I got to visit his family for a week. It was incredible. But really with the laws they have and how the economy is being run, I would say they are left wing such as having labor unions (which i despise, mainly because where I live, they are scamming lazy assholes and they give people who don't work hard better pay and less hours.) and being big advocates of protecting the environment (which is a good thing in my mind.) Those are some things that liberals usually side with in general. lol I don't want to go much more into it as I'm pretty ignorant on the subject. I know there is a ton of stuff about it, but I don't really remember much of it. plz correct if I'm wrong :)

Me and my friends make fun of it, but it's not malicious.

It helps that they're so close, and making fun of Mexico is A. Too easy and B. probably racist.
